Making a Comeback

What conference did he play in?

Cbus cardsfan said:Has anyone even really see Jacobs play? He's already my most overrated player in the draft(if he declares). He plays in an offensive system like they run at Texas Tech so he's going to put up big numbers. He plays in the worst defensive conference in the NCAA.His mechanics are horrible,it's like he shot puts the ball. The QB before him also put up very big numbers in college and he was late round draft pick that has already been cut and is now battling to make the Browns as 3rd QB.He is big and athletic but i wouldn't touch the guy in the first 3 rounds unless Denny wants another good basketball player at QB.But,Green knows QB's so i can't see him even considering Jacobs in round 1.

They should be EFA's at best, depending on how many games they were listed on the 53 man roster and whether they signed one, two or three year contracts. They won't be RFA's until after the 2006 season at the earliest.

Agreed. I don't wish any bad on the guy (even though I think that he's an arogant ass) but I give him two more years before he's out of the NFL. He's never going to fully recover from those bulging discs playing a violent sport.kerouac9 said:I would, considering that Archuleta stinks and isn't half the player that Adrian Wilson is (psst--they play the same position).
kerouac9 said:Boy, I sure wouldn't mind seeing Casey Hampton eating up the middle of the field for the Cards as they enter the new building...

The guy is a beast in the middle. Too bad he will command a lot of money that the Cards won't even look at his way.joeshmo said:Just to give you a little hope on getting Hampton. The Steelers feel that their D didnt miss a beat with Hampton out with injury last year for some time, and they have a pretty good case. Becuase of that, rumor is they may not make a hard run for Hampton in the 2006 offseason and will rather go with a cheaper alternative. Especially with big money needing to go to Ward who will also be a FA and they also want to upgrade their CB position which will take some big bucks as well.

1. A lot can happen over the next 11 months.
2. There will be surprises (both good and bad) on our own roster.
3. There will be surprises (both good & bad) within the 2006 draft pool.
4. There will be surprises (both good & bad) in free agency
5. There will be surprises (both good & bad) with regard to other teams - overall and within our division.
6. We don't know what our draft position will be - both in absolute terms and within the context of other teams and their needs.
That said - let's assume that Dennis Green remains faithful to his best available athlete philosophy. That should simplify things. All we have to do is watch a lot of college football, cherry pick the best athletes and rank them.
With this in mind, if the draft were held today - and he was available when we picked - Vincent Young QB Texas jumps out. He'd be technically a junior and still has a lot to learn about being a pro QB, but seems to have all the qualities of Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb combined. His running skills alone provide a fallback option for the team who drafts him should he hurt his arm or falter as a QB. I'll probably put all Texas U games on my TIVO wish list just for the excitement of watching him play.

I agree.....it's a crapshoot until more info is available, but I do like Vince Young and I am not opposed to taking a QB in the 1st round as long as it isn't with an early pick.
I believe that we will be picking in the 18-20 range. Young will be there, but here is another idea that I like.......Jimmy Williams. He could be the answer as a bookend FS for Adrian Wilson at SS. I do think we need to address this position on the "D". Griffith is a short term fix and Ohalete and Harris are not long termers IMO.
CardinalLaw said:Interesting at NFL Blitz. Do you know who they have us picking, if your not a member you can only see 1-10.
But they have Omar Jacobs going number 4 overall. tp the Bears.
Analysis: Did anyone really think that picking a quarterback (Grossman) with a weak arm was a good idea for a team that plays in "The Windy City"? Watching Jacobs play you can't help but see similarities to Culpepper.
