Good info. I'd say L.D. is worth it to see how he can do next year.

I have been 100% behind tagging/extending LD anyway but now that the numbers have been announced...9.5m vs the 9.1 he made in 2006...I don't see how anyone can agrgue the point. When the OL is your weakness, you don't get rid of your best one.

I don't think LD gets the respect he deserves from this board.

I'm sure joeshmo will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Davis' salary for last year puts him above that cap number since a player has to get at least a 20% increase if they are tagged. That's why we've heard the 11+ number for months now.

I'd still tag him, if he doesn't want to talk a deal now. BTW, Whis said last week that they would be talking to Davis this week.

davis should never be franchised. you only franchise a player to hopefully sign him long term.

if the cardinals want to sign him, then sign the man, but i think if the cardinals were happy with his play then they would have gave him a contract extension before the season was over.

Not true. Just last season, the Jets franchised John Abraham, sought trades for his rights, and acquired a first round draft pick for him from the Falcons.

Several years ago, the Rams franchised DE Kevin Carter and ended up with Tennessee's first round pick for him.

In 2001, the Cardinals franchised Aeneas Williams, and got a 2nd and 4th round pick from the Rams for his rights.

If you have a blue chip player and can afford it, it's not uncommon for teams to franchise a player. In reality several teams don't use the franchise tag. But whether they want to sign Davis to a long-term deal or trade him, IMO, the Cardinals need to franchise LD for at least one year.

WOW!

The Cincy Reds just signed pitcher Bronson Arroyo to a two year deal at 25 million. He won 14 games each of the last two seasons and gets paid as much as a franchise QB in the NFL.

I think you might be right. Didnt he make like 11 mil lasy year? He would be due a 10 or 20% raise this year. I think???

Absolutely right. Too much money available and a weak core of free agents. Get LD for sure and add some quality but not the so called few elete that will have a bidding war for their services.

Why do you think Cubs prospect and Notre Dame WR Jeff Samazardja (sp) decided that he'd rather climb on the bump every 5 days than get drilled over the middle every 7?

Tag Davis.

Negotiate long-term contract with Davis.

MJ stated on the radio yesterday that Davis is expected to be in town and meet with the coach sometime next week. At that point he has every indication that the team does in fact want to offer him a deal if the meeting goes as expected. If that deal is actually a genuine deal or not or just a deal to say, "Hey we tried" he doesnt know.

Take it for what its worth.

coach green made the mistake of making our best lineman at the time leave. i really don't think whis is going to make a mistake like that. we can afford l d and he is the BEST option out there. not to mention davis has yet to play for a decent coaching staff. let's see what some real coaches can get out of him.

We really need to keep Big for at least one more year to work with the new coaches. This may really turn him around. I have been watching Sean Andrews the all pro tackle from Philadelphia on local TV this week. He is from Arkansas and back in town. I had not seen him up close since he left Arkansas. I was amazed at how much he has trimmed down (said he has lost 60 lb). He attributes his much improved play to his weight loss. He sure did not look like any fat slob lineman anymore. Do not know what he weighs now but I assume around 310 or 320. We have a couple of lineman coming out in the draft this year who are much like Sean Andrews. One of them is Ugoh and I have forgot the other ones name but they will play in the NFL.

Forgot to mention Tony Ugoh is a 6'6" 310 lb OL. I suspect he will go somewhere in round 4-5 and would be a real bargain there as he has a lot of room for improved technique. He will be at the combines.

I also think Jeff got a 10 million dollar signing bonus from the Cubs. He sure looks like a major league pitcher to me. I do not think he will spend more than two years in the minors if that. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be an 18-21 year old high school or college phenon and suddenly get 10-20 mil from the NBA or MLB in one day. I was concerned about my car payment or renting a tux about that time.
