Wow. It's amazing how often guys who do something like that end up regretting it.

I read today that Simms turned down a deal worth about 10 million to play this year in Tampa and take his chances on a much bigger deal. he sucked, got seriously hurt, and now may not even get an offer from them.

Jeremy green said on his chat today that most of the offer was deferred because Gruden doesn't like left handed QB's because it forces him to change so many things around for the lefty. I guess I just don't get that, I don't hear Dennis Green complaining about that with Matt?

Well the rotation of the ball is different so it's harder for the WR's to adjust :D .

Sign Max Starks, Mike Gandy, and Derrick Dockery.

No really good centers though :(
What about Mike Gandy and Eric Steinbach? Max Starks will cost at least a first rounder if he's restricted and he may cost 2 firsts.

I like Dockery. But Starks is a RFA who will not be let go by Pitt. and will be given the high tender and teams will have to offer up a 1st and 3rd rounder to sign him to a high enough deal that Pitt will not go for.

Steinbach. That was another one I like.

Not much of a Center class as someone else pointed out. Heres to hoping Leckey lights it up. Or Wells is finally tried there and does an above average job.

I say we go after Nate Clements and the best FS available to shore up our secondary and Lance Briggs if he's available. Use the draft to get our 2 OT's and C (Hopefully Sam Baker, Jake Long and Kyle Young).

Since Starks is a restricted FA, then we go after Gandy, Dockery, and Steinbach. Move Wells to center. Start a line consistenting of:

LT- Gandy
LG- Lutui
C- Steinbach (move him to center)
RG- Dockery
RT- Ross/ Draft pick

Sign Clements and Briggs....we have enough cap space to make all of these moves.

All this Briggs talk, but I would rather go after Adalius Thomas. He plays way more at and behind the line of scrimmage then Briggs does. And can rush the passer way better which it looks like we will need with Berry and Okeafer having aged 15 years in one year. I just think he is Pendy's perfect and dream SLB for his scheme. Then Move Dansby over to WLB.

But I wont make a fuss with briggs either.

Would Kyle Turley (6'5"/330, Center at Fresno State) last until round 2 in 2007? If so, that's our pick.

I think we need to use the round 1 pick on a RT...and there are some good ones coming out next year.

The one FA that I'd go ga ga over would be Nate Clements, CB. He would be the guy that I'd bring in and make sure he didn't leave without a signature on a contract a la Edge.....at whatever the cost.

LaRon Landry at FS from LSU would also be an attractive 1st rounder.

BTW-- watched Sam Baker of USC last night and he looked very good (although ASU's D has a way of doing that)

Should he come out, the Cards could go Baker in Round 1 and Center Ryan Khalil in Round 3 -- and recreate the left side of the USC line for Matt

I like Thomas a lot also, I didn't even know he was an FA. I'm glad you mentioned he was a SLB, I was going to mention that after you brought up his name. The only slightly weak part of his game is coverage IMO but I think Hayes and Dansby could compensate for that. You are exactly correct on your pass rushing point, I would even say that Briggs is a bad pass rusher (it may just be that he is so good in coverage). I would love to get Thomas though, he really gets overshadowed playing in some sets where the other 3 LBs are Lewis, Bart Scott, and Suggs! He is pretty much as solid as they get as a LB.

Steinbach will not be available...the Bengals would put the transition tag on him before they would let him sign away. Also, I don't know why we would sign a top LG for huge money and then switch him to center.

Gandy and Clements both will probably be resigned as well, though Clemetns might get the franchise tag if they can't get a contract squared away. Gandy is an anchor piece but the Bills might give him up to sign Clements. Dockery could be available but Starks is going nowhere.

I will have to reserve who I think that we should go after until we see who are head coach/d coordinator is and what their scheme needs. I am pretty sure that we go LT/RT in round one and C/RT/LT in round two. This would be the best bet because our defense has playmakers on it and our o-line is so short of talent.

Oline at the start of the 2007 season:
LT-Joe Thomas/R Wells
LG-Leonard Davis/???
C-Kyle Young/N Leckey
RG-D Lutui/M Brown
RT-O Ross/B Gorin

I thought I read somewhere that the Bills cannot franchise Clements as part of agreement between him and the team because he took the 1yr tender offer without holding out so he could be an UFA this year without being franchised and scaring teams off.

As for Kyle Young at the beginning of the year he was considered a 1st rounder but recent mocks have him in the 2nd or 3rd rounds not sure if it's because he or Fresno State isn't doing well this year. I personally would select him but one concern is that he is a little tall for a C so he would have trouble with smaller, wider DT's who could get under his pads. I also like Sam Baker from USC.

I also agree that Steinbach, Gandy and Dockery will not be available next year so I would draft 3 OL with our first 3 picks and depth at other positions on D and sign Clements, Thomas/Briggs/Fujita, and maybe Michael Lewis from Philadelphia.

Clements may be re-signed but I highly doubt he gets the franchise tag. He already was last year which means if franchised again he wont just cost the franchise tag amount but much more then that per CBA rules. He could cost up to 10 Mill and when franchised that is all gauranteed.

Plus a report as early of today with the Bills trying to shop Clements tells me the team no longer wants to pay Celements what he will want or need to pay to keep him, or that Clements already has told the team he is gone no matter what in the offseason.

Bills | Clements on the trade block
Sun, 15 Oct 2006 10:00:44 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Buffalo Bills CB Nate Clements is reportedly available at the trade deadline. Clements is eligible for free agency after the season and the team is expecting to lose the young cornerback. Whoever signs Clements would have to sign him to a blockbuster deal and there is interest from other teams in him. However, one team said they were not sure if they could get their numbers together in time.

i have an idea. instead of a linebacker, how about an offensive lineman that can block. there is a bigger need than linebacker. so give me a list of availble offensive lineman.
