The point of this thread (like others in the past) is to name 2 players from the 2009 draft that you think will be a bust and 2 that will be a star.

Here's my picks.

Busts:
Vontae Davis
James Laurinaitis

Stars:
Brian Orakpo
Michael Crabtree

10-4

Busts
Vontae Davis (hard to have faith in someone who's initials are VD)
Malcom Jenkins (I dont think he has the quickness to stick with NFL #1's)

Studs
Curry
Ayers
I wanted to use Orakpo, but I didn't want to copy your entire list.

Stars

1) Crabtree-reminds me of Boldin for his desire, tenacity and abilty to be physical but with more speed. Don't want to see him in Seattle.

2) Orakpo-being a Horns fan I've seen what this guy can do. Once this guy adds another 10-15 lbs WATCH OUT!!! Can you say beast? A Simeon Rice clone.

Busts

1) Michael Johnson-started just one season Typical hype because of measureables and potential. Remember the old saying "potential gets you beat"?

2) SC LB'ers-Maualuga and Cushing-not saying they will be horrible NFL players, but the hype surrounding these guys are far fetched. Do they make game changing plays? If I'm picking a LB'er early they better be able to get to the QB or force a turnover. Cushing always seems to be hurt and Rey Rey isn't the 2nd coming of Ray Lewis.

Next level
Stars
Clint Sintim-if picked by a 3-4 team could be the best LB'er in 2-3 years.

Knowshon Moreno-if he slips to #31 Cards may have to pull the trigger despite needing LB'ers. Tell me why this guy isn't going top 10.

Hakkem Nicks-Luv this guy, reminds me of Michael Irvin

Busts
Tyson Jackson-great physical tools but never stood out to me

Connor Barwin-workout warrior who had 1 great season. One move, straight up the field and thats harder to achieve in the NFL

Stars -

English - He had an average combine, but add that in with his smarts, work ethic, motor, instincts, awareness, long arms, production, leadership, and a wide range of pass rush moves that even veterans still dont have, and he is the complete package jumping over other prospects who had better combines.

Eugene Monroe - Virginia has been churning out some good prospects lately who have had success in the NFL in Albert and Ferguson. I think Monroe will have immediate impact.

Busts -
BJ Raji - Thats right I said it, even though I liked him during the senior bowl practices. He lacks some things that just dont lead to NFL success. The things he lacks - maturity, commitment, brains, motor, conditioning, stamina and the kiss of death is he plays to the level of his competition.

Ayers - For a guy who is supposed to be so athletic he sure didnt have very many sacks the one and only year he started (3 sacks). Workout warrior type IMO.

agree Mitch on Hunt, if he was 2-3 inches taller he might be a 1st or 2nd rounder.

stars:

Percy Harvin-the most explosive player in the draft.
Rey Mualuaga-being downgraded but,on the field, he's a monster.

busts:

Brian Cushing-just something about him makes me think he's not all that great.
Michael Crabtree-could be a benefactor of TTech's system. Who knows what kind of route runner and spee he'll have at the NFL level.

Do you remember Rey's interception and runback for a TD in the Ohio State game this year?

If this guy wasn't hurt... He's top 15.

About 6 minutes of highlights. Mostly full plays from scrimmage. Cushing and Matthews are rarely as fast and punishing as this guy. Plus he is just a MISSLE for the ball carrier.

In short.... He is my Man Crush. Beanie is the hottest girl on my wish list.... This is the chick I will probably be taking to the prom.

alas.... I might have to go alone if one of the hotter guys has toruble finding a date.

Stud:

Kenny Britt - I think he will be the best WR out of this class.
Rey Maualuga - I don't care how he tests, put the pads on and this kid can play. He will play at a high level in the middle of somebody's offense for a decade.

Bust:
Aaron Maybin - He has disaster all over him. Too slow at LB weight, too small at DE weight. At best he'll be a situational guy to get you 5-8 sacks a year. Not worth where he may be picked.
Michael Crabtree - A product of his own expectations. Not that he'll be a bad player, but I think he will be Bobby Engram production, Larry Fitzgerald draft position.

yes I remember the play. I'm as big a USC fan as Texas fan and have been that since the days of Anthony Davis and hope the guy is a player, but I'm betting against it. I have watched alot of Trojan games over the years and feel both of those guys are overhyped for what they produce on the field. I think he will be solid but not as his hype. You might be right, but we will see.

Rey is one of my favorites in the draft but you are to an extent right about the number of game changing plays. the problem is USC has had so many future NFL players on the field it's hard to stand out, especially on defense.

My guess is that Rey's injury and workout stuff is not really what's dropping him in the draft it's that NFL teams have got a lot more information on Rey's problems in the past off the field and they're now all getting leery about a first round pick who's had that many issues controlling his temper. It hasn't come up for a couple of years but NFL teams will see the prior stuff and I'm sure they'll get his supposedly sealed juvenile record(well known that happened to Corey Dillon) and get nervous.

Ferocious hitter, I don't think Rey will have an ultra long career he hits so hard he'll probably have a shorter career but phenomenal player.

Stars:

Rey Rey
Harvin - Reggie Bush impact, but at low 20s, not #2.

Busts:
Sanchez
Raji (Disclaimer: I've only seen highlights, not full game tape, but it seems every sick play he makes he is being single blocked by someone who should not be single on him. He will miss having Ron Brace next to him).

1 Outperform - Ron Brace (See above)
1 Underperform - Jarron Gilbert - Note: He becomes an outperform if they change the rules of football to include pool jumping. If not, he will be a decent player, but moreso belonging in the 4th round than the 1st.
