I thought this deserves it's own thread.

Not really a fan of Jason "fat-head" Terry, but I hope Dallas wins, i respect Nowitski and wish Marion gets a ring. Go Mavs!!

Only 2 dudes on each team that were there in the previous Finals.

Dallas still has Terry and Dirk.

Miami still has Wade and Hasslem.

yeah its kinda weird how that turned out. in 2006 it looked like both teams were set for years, then the next year they both kind of fell on their faces literally. they both basically are completely different teams.

Those are probably the two most important Mavs player. Dallas cant afford either having too many off nights or they are done.

I agree with you there. but terry had an off series against OKC and they still won in five. this years team is less reliant on terry than last year overall. but in the 4th quarter he gets a lot of the mins and open looks. I think he has to come up big because you know they are going to try to get the ball out of dirks hands.

Stojkovic and Marion are yet to show on offense, but Mavs defense is really good

yeah both defenses look good. both teams showing a lot of double teams. a lot of open shots out there for the jump shooters.

Peja Stojakovic has been brutal tonight. If he makes his open threes the Mavs are up double digits. :(

i know. you have to feel that those are going to fall for him eventually. hopefully in the 4th. Dallas is getting a lot of wide open shots. nothing is changing there, they just have to knock them down.

great 3 to end the third by lebron.

I give the heat credit. they were clearly better than dallas tonight. if dallas doesn't rebound the ball better at the defensive end and make open shots they are in big trouble. the heat migh win this series in 4 if they don't play a lot better...

Dirk is worse with 5/14 shooting. :(

Dirk wasn't missing wide open 3's in the first half he was being double teamed. Regardless of that Stoyocovic still sucks.

so weird how AWFUL this Heat team was closing games during the season and how AWESOME they've been at in the playoffs. They just own the fourth quarters of these games.

still a long way to go and a Game 2 loss by Miami wouldn't surprise me, but Dallas is going to have to play sick basketball to win this series. still think it goes at least 6 though.

Miami has better superstars and better defense... and homecourt advantage. That usually spells doom for the opposing team in the playoffs.

Not sure how anyone is STILL making an argument for the Mavs. I feel like people are just talking themselves into it.

We all watch the NBA right? For years now, right? Other then the Pistons back in 2004 can anyone tell me when a team that didn't have the best players actually won in the Finals.

It just. doesn't. happen.

This is the NBA not the NFL. There are no 2001 Pats or 2007 Giants.

I guarantee Mavs fans will be bitching about the disparity in free throws by the end of the series so let me pre-empt them.

The Heat have the 2 best players in the league at getting to the line. Thats why superstars always win. Not because they get preferential treatment (although that does happen) its because a true superstar is someone that gets to the line over and over again.

And thats why no one will stop the Heat.

For the next 5 years.

agreed and one of the main reasons that Detroit team was able to win was because they were a defensive dynamo. Dallas is an ok defensive team, but they are faaaaaaaaar from great in that regard.

The only thing that can really stop the Heat from a winning the title is Wade's history of injuries. Otherwise, that ********* is probably gonna go down as the best Big 3 of all time.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dwight Howard end up with either Rose or Williams in the East though to give the Heat SOME kind of competition for the next 4 or 5 years. Otherwise, this could get boring fast. The West is about to take a major step back. SA is finished, the Lakers probably have one last gasp run in them, but OKC is the only young, up and coming team with superstars on it who look like they're gonna be around for a while.

I watched probably 60+ Heat games this year and that was a tad overblown.

But mainly that was happening because everyone expected them to throw them all out there and be clicking on all cylinders right off the bat. The last two minutes of a game is the only time teams play defense during the regular season. The Heat, even with their singularly amazing players, were learning how to handle the end of the game together. Basketball is a team game at the end of the day and it was a tug of war as Lebron, Wade, and Bosh were all used to being THE guy and everyone else getting out of the way in those situations.

But I laughed everytime SportsCenter led off with that story. Like they weren't going to get it together eventually?

Again its the two best players in the league on one team, it was gonna work eventually.

Agreed on all counts. The only thing I would add is the ineveitable ego issues that will get in the way. Living out here, alot of people are still diluting themselves into saying "this is Wades team, he was here first"
but watch when that changes as Lebron wins a couple Finals MVPS (hes on his way to one now) and a couple more MVP's.

All that "Wades team" talk will quiet real quick and although everything is peachy keen now when they are hungry and proving everyone wrong, the "disease of more" will rear its ugly head IMO.

People here say that won't happen, but there was a time when Shaq and Kobe was a good idea too.

But really that (and maybe Wade injuries) is the only thing stopping them.

Simple analysis:

Poor match ups all over the floor for the Mavs, Heat have more talent and is younger and quicker.

Dirk scores 27 and still loses. Dallas, who has the best bench in the league, was outscored tonight by a shallower Heat team 27-17.

I think Miami will win the next 5 titles. Just too many weapons.

Chicago was probably the only team that could slow down Wade like they did in the ECFs but Bosh and LeBron stepped it up.

Plus defensively they are close to perfect. Pin point rotations and double teams come right on time.

that was the smartest observation of date.

dallas must win that battle if they have any chance to win. why did they sweep the lakers? because in some games the bench was outscoring the lakers starters. in fact in game 4 of that series dirk scored only 17 points, yet dallas won by over 30. dirk's points really don't matter until the 4th quarter if the game is tight. that's the only time where his points are really the difference because he can create his own shot.

honestly it really doesn't matter how many points dirk scores. he can score 20-50 and they will still lose if their bench doesn't outscore the heat's.

Be careful when drinking in the heat bro, it will make you say funny things. The Heat do have weaknesses and no way they win 5 in a row. We've seen this before, someone looks strong and then comments like this are made. It's like listening to Bill Walton describe some player as one of the "league's best of all times" after they make a nice simple jumpshot.

Mavs don't match up well with the Heat, I had the series going 4-1 before it started, not after the first game like other folks have. But the offseason and part of next season will be spent trying get players that will match up against Miami, a few teams can do it pretty easily.
