Saw that the Dbacks brought in an "analytics" guy who specializes in "advanced scouting"... Interesting....

I love that trade for Atlanta. Miller is a stud. Hayward is an above average player but I cannot see how he ever lives up to the hype. He hasn't been one of these hot/cold guys who needs to find consistency. He has been consistent... consistently mediocre.

I agree that this is a good deal for ATL, pitching is harder to find than bats. Plus, having both Upton & Hayward as FA's next year, ATL gets a huge piece for Hayward and increases it chances of being able to keep Upton who had a great year for them.

I like the move for the Cardinals. Heyward is only 24 years old and will be entering his prime. Shelby Miller is good as well but Pitchers are such an injury risk. How long will it be before he will need Tommy John surgery?

Heyward never really lived up to his expectations, but still was solid. and a stud defensively. the problem with him is that he is going to get PAAIID next off season. the braves have money to spend to keep a bunch of key peices in place. oh, yeah, let's not forget about that contract they are paying to BJ upton :biglaugh:

I've read Jon Lester is suppose to visit ATL this week. Not sure why if they are cash strapped. Rumor is they may try and deal Justin Upton too, especially if they can get rid of BJ. Do you think if ATL traded J Up & Chris Johnson (ATL may be looking to get out of his contract as well), would they get a better deal then they got with us?

I beleive they would get more for 2 reasons. The main reason is that kevin towers isn't the one marketing Upton, or the one choosing the trade return. KT wrecked uptons value more than anyone else ever did.

Secondly, Upton put together his best season last year. I'm sure some people will say that he finally reachds his potential.

unseen covered this pretty good. Towers efforts in shopping Upton pretty much boiled down to him shouting "Anyone want to trade for this ****ty player who I hate!?!?" for a year.

Our return was a couple sub par arms and a 30 year old glorified utility player that instantly needed a big extension. Barring Upton getting arrested for a felony they should be able to get far more value out of him.

Kyle Seager, 3B of the Mariners just signed a 7 year 100 mil contract. I'm seriously disgusted. The guy is a .260 lifetime hitter, never more than 25 homeruns never gotten 100 RBIs never scored more than 80 runs. I'm glad for him that he hot paid, but baseball is completely out of control. It's spiraling out of control. Disgusting

I agree that it is out of control, but to be fair he is a Gold Glove winner. His defense has gotten better every year. When looking at baseball today, $14 million a year for a well above average fielder at 3B who can hit 25 homers a year while playing in Safeco is not a bad deal when you compare some of the other deals. I also think that Seattle sees a 27 year old player who has improved each year and is going to save some runs with his defense at 3B.

Now, giving Sandoval $18 million a year feels crazy for a guy who averages 15 homers a year while only playing 110 games a year at 3B. BTW, 2014 was the most he ever played there, so we will see how his body holds up.

Ummm, this is interesting.

As of now, Ramirez projects as the everyday Red Sox third baseman, sharing the left side of the infield with shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Since the Sox are reportedly close to a deal with Pablo Sandoval, however, Ramirez could be moved into a left field role, joining Boston’s very crowded outfield mix of Yoenis Cespedes, Rusney Castillo, Shane Victorino, Allen Craig, Brock Holt, Jackie Bradley, Mookie Betts and Daniel Nava. Cespedes’ name has been mentioned in trade rumors, so he seems like the most probable candidate to be playing elsewhere in 2015.

The other alternative for Boston would be to install Ramirez at shortstop, Sandoval at 3B and then look to deal Bogaerts, whose star-caliber ceiling would make him a major chip in any trade. Even if Bogaerts was dealt, the Red Sox wouldn’t have to deal with Ramirez’s shortstop glove for too long — prospect Deven Marrero could eventually take over, shifting Ramirez or Sandoval to DH (the other would play third) once David Ortiz retires. Ortiz’s contract is only guaranteed for the 2015 season, though the 39-year-old slugger has a pair of team/vesting options for 2016 and 2017.

MLB went off the rails long ago... I mean, seriously - is any one individual player worth $30 million a year?? #A-ROID

I hope the Giants sign Tomas now. Sucks to lose Pablo but that's a lot of cheddar for him. Giants are going to need to replace his bat.

Not really a big surpise, people question could Sandoval hold up at 3B, well he won't have to if he is the DH. Ramirez wasn't going to play SS, he lacks the range to now, that's why LA put him at 3B. If BOS can land Lester then it has been a good offseason for them. They get Cepedes at the deadline, add hitters in Ramirez & Sandoval and get an ace in Lester (if he signs), I think he will as BOS looks like they are in buy mode.

It's going to be interesting to see how it all unfolds. I think they need more than just Lester to give them a competetive starting rotation.

Their bats are coming together though, don't forget about Allen Craig

Not that I'd ever want him on our team, but Jay Bruce apparantly has the DBacks on his no trade clause list...

We heard recently that the Reds will at least listen to offers on outfielder Jay Bruce. While that still seems to be a long shot, it is worth noting that Bruce has an eight-team no-trade clause that would come into play were he shopped.
According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, Bruce can block deals to the Athletics, Blue Jays, D’backs, Marlins, Rays, Red Sox, Twins, and Yankees. That mix of small and large-market teams presumably shields Bruce from destinations he may prefer not to play in while affording him leverage if a big-spending AL East club were to come calling.

Why in the world would he have the DBacks specifically listed as a team he wouldn't want to play for?? It's not like we're a consistant losing ball team.

The Yankees and Red Sox are on the list as well... :mulli:
