The first few pre-FA contracts may be an indication of a return to ridiculous contracts.

Sam Sheilds gets close to $10M a year?

Now today, Everson Griffen gets a 5 year $42.9M contract from the Vikings....Everson Griffen gets over $8M a year? He's good...but...$8M a year good?

The Vikings also, btw, just re-signed Jasper Brinkley to a one year deal.

I bet Sherman and Peterson are licking their chops.

That sucks. Maybe the Niners lose Whitner to the Browns. That is the

rumor anyway.

They are going to re-up a few more guys now, but someone has gotta be a cap casualty. And when Wilson's contract is up in 2 years, they are going to have a firesale, I think, to afford him.

With Veldheer expected to go to AZ, Albert to Miami, the Ravens and LT Eugene Monroe are deep in constructive talks, working towards a deal.

The #Panthers are attempting to trade WR Steve Smith, per source. Given his $7M cap number and age (34), seems unlikely.

ESPN is reporting the following financials for Bennett

League sources confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Bennett signed a four-year, $28.5 million deal, with $16 million guaranteed. Bennett will earn $10 million in the first year, $6 million in the second year, $5 million in the third year and $7.5 million in the final year.

Even if it was the earlier reported 32M, just an incredible deal ...... especially when you look at what MN just paid out to Griffen

I would love the Cardinals to add Steve Smith but we don't seem to have the fit or money to do so. Hard to justify signing a 34 year old WR to play over Michael Floyd (though Smith is better) and we don't offer enough snaps at #3 WR.

Don't think we have the money for him either. However, I do think there would be enough touches to go around. They need a reliable 3rd guy behind Fitz and Floyd, either from a TE or WR. With the way BA moves all his receivers around having 3 upper echelon receivers no matter where they line is a major issue for defenses. Therefore, Smith would do well here behind Fitz and Floyd. Other than the money, I think the other issue would be the fact that our division holds some big DB's and thus Smith would have a tougher time with us because of that.

I'd be happy to bring back Roberts. Or, Golden Tate? Make him return kicks too? Probably will cost too much, huh?

Incredible deal? I guess if you compare it to a bad deal.

I'm guessing that Bennett's agent made a few calls and realized that Bennett wasn't going to get much more than the Seahawks were offering. Good deal for Bennett ($1M per sack).

Reportedly the Bears and Browns were prepared to offer more, but he took less to stay in Seattle.

You know that most of the "leaked free agent info" comes from the players agent. Agents try to use the media to get teams into bidding wars.

Yep - an absolutely incredible deal and a good structure as well

You can sneeze at 8.5 sacks while playing on a rotational basis - mainly from the inside - while ignoring that during his last season in TB he was 6th amongst 4-3 DEs with 71 QB pressures and that last year he put up 65 pressures despite having his total snaps decrease by a lot and having over 35% of his snaps come from the DT spot

I'll continue to actually look at the contribution on the field and see how the interior pressure and versatility in how he can align across the DL and operate in various formations to continue to provide an impact, open up things for his teamates and also flat out make plays on a defense that destroyed one of the greatest statistical offenses in league history in the Super Bowl

Retaining a key component of a SB winning defense for a little over $7M a year through the 4 year heart of his prime - yeah, I'll take it every day

Yeah but how many of these pressures happened against guys not named Levi Brown? :D

Sorry, had to :)

Good guy to re-sign and keeps the NFC west better. Though obviously I wish he had left. In the end he did give a hometown discount.
