Now that the 2013 draft is done, we can look forward to the 2014 season and the draft. I see the Suns being one of the five worst teams in the NBA, so they should pick pretty high. Maybe if they have a horrible year and attendance drops again, Sarver sells the team. I can dream, can't I?

I want to see the Suns win but I will not get upset when they lose because we all know that this team will not be competitive for a few years and they have to build thru the draft. Here is a mock draft for 2014.

I think the Suns will make moves to get into the Wiggins Lottery.

If Wiggins goes number 1 (who knows what happens between now and then) that would make 2 years in a row that a Canadian has gone #1 overall!

He's a kid but he's a pretty special kid. He was at some camp awhile back where they tried to measure his vertical jump and discovered they didn't have an apparatus tall enough to do it. He was about 6'7" then, he's supposedly an inch taller now. You see numbers like 44-46 inch vert tossed around.

He's still got a young frame but he looks like he'll have no problem getting stronger. he's a good shooter, he can pass the ball, he can defend. His off the bounce game is coming along. He's only 18 and seems very level headed, just the fact that he didn't cave to do the expected and pick UK impressed me.

I'd be pretty surprised if he's not one of the best players in the NBA in 5 years.

Jabari Parker or Julius Randle would be great consolation prizes if PHX doesn't get Wiggins. I actually really like Parker because he has an all around game. Randle would be a beast down low and has range on the perimeter.

Right now, with my very limited exposure to them I'd go with Wiggins, Randle, Gordon and Parker in that order. I've yet to see what the huge deal is with Jabari, I guess I just haven't seen the right shots. I could just be blinded by my hatred for anything Duke though (Grant Hill excepted).

My wish list is similar. I'm looking forward to watching Gordon at UA this year. I do fear from what little I've seen of him in the McDonald's games and his comments of wanting to be a guard, that he will fall in love with always making the "flashy" plays instead of developing his fundamentals

Dante Exum is a much better prospect than Parker or Randle and imo easily the #2 pick.

I'd be very cautious with Gordon, he looks like Derrick Williams/Beasley to me. Undersized PF with no defensive impact.
Same of Randle, a lot depends on his measurements but he seems to be an offensive player only too.

I like James Young and Wayne Selden a lot.

I haven't seen Exum play yet so I have no opinion on him. As for your Gordon comment, there is a world of difference between Williams and Beasley so I don't see much validity there. I think Randle is going to be special.

It's not really fundamentals with Gordon it's that he strongly believes he is something that he's not. He played guard when he was younger, then he grew, and he still believes he's a guard.

You can't read an interview with him where he doesn't talk about it, I'm working on my outside shot and my handle, that's great, but he has zero post moves. He doesn't think he's a post, he doesn't want to be a post, so he's never developed post moves. He basically just jumps over people. He's a phenomenal athlete and he plays very hard, he'll be good, but he's one of those guys who right now has no in between. He can dunk, he can shoot enough 3's he'll make some, but he's got no reliable mid game.

Has Sean Miller talked about whether he plans on having Gordon play the 2,3 or 4? Hopefully, he can develop some sort of low post game next year, otherwise, I hope the Suns stay away.

I'm not worried about Gordon just yet. He's not the first guy to go through this, in fact, it's a common concern with athletic bigs coming out of high school.

yeah...Wiggin's talent is unreal, hence all the hype. It looks like he's launching from a trampoline every time he jumps

I wonder what he personality and brain are like. That stare down near the end of the clip was a bit silly. He is playing with high schoolers.

Sure, but they copy their heroes and their heroes have been doing it for quite awhile. The dumbest example of that kind of behavior I've ever seen was in the mid 90's. Jelani McCoy slam dunked the ball late in the game pulling UCLA back to within 78 points of the other team and he stood there screaming and glaring for a good 30 minutes. It's a true story although I might have gone all Bill Walton on the numbers.

He did that once out of many dunks shown. That's not even in the Chris Webber territory of self-aggrandizement, and Webber was tame by today's standards.

Not trying to accuse or justify, just wondering. It seems one of the surest ways to nullify immense talent is to be a knucklehead. I just have not seen much written about his personality, posse, intelligence, etc. Anyone have info?

From Wikipedia:

Wiggins was born in Toronto, Ontario, and raised in nearby Thornhill. He is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and former Canadian Olympic track-and-field sprinter Marita Payne-Wiggins.

So it looks like he comes from a good environment and his parents background certainly explains the crazy athleticism that he possesses.

And not that social media tells us everything about a person, but his twitter profile pic is of him hugging his mom...so from what I could find it doesn't look like he's a thug like Aaron Hernandez

Yeah my early impression of the guy is fairly positive. If he gets drafted by someone other than the Suns I might find a reason to start hating on the guy but right now I'm sold.

Being the child of a former pro athlete can help a player adjust to the league. I think it helped Kobe Bryant and Grant Hill alot.

Thanks for the info.
