But what will Dragic's max deal look like? Will it be more than Bledsoe who's coming off his rookie deal? Or is it based off his previous contract?

If it'll be something like 18 or 19 million plus annual raises, that would mean 34-37 million for the 2 of them.

Unless Dragic turns into an improved Steve Nash next years, wins MVP or at least makes the NBA all-first team, the Suns have to let him go at that price. I do believe that Dragic would not require a max from the Suns though.

He came back to Phoenix after he got dumped for a moldy cheese sandwich by them a year before. He seems to like the team, the city, the organization. I think Sarver built some rapport and loyalty with Goran with how he signed him the last time around. Dragic will give the Suns a home-town discount.

I think you HAVE to give him what Bledsoe gets, but I don't think he will demand a max like Bledsoe.

I think you need to be realistic about Len - Lopez has just come good, Len will probably need at least the same amount of time.

That's why I said hope. I'm pretty discouraged that they're already talking about limiting his minutes in summer league, Len needs to learn how to play basketball, and be playing basketball all day everyday, unless he's physically incapable. (which is another, much larger problem)

I think some are making the assumption it will take a max contract (18 or 19 million) to re-sign Dragic because Bledsoe gets a max contract. Although this may end up being true, I don't see the Suns keeping Bledsoe as well for this type money. Actually I can see the Suns trading one of these players before this happens.

Does anyone think Dragic will get better, or did he reach his ceiling?

I think he probably came pretty close to his ceiling for about two-thirds of the season. He was a different player from the all star game on though so if we can get him more help (keep Bledsoe healthy) and stop him from playing international ball he would effectively raise his ceiling.

I think there is a legitimate chance Dragic will keep getting better. He had a great teacher. Actually if I could only keep Dragic or Bledsoe at this point in time, I would keep Dragic. Also I still have concerns about Bledsoe's past injuries.

Although I know it would be unpopular in Slovenia, I really hope the Suns put a stop to his summer play. Goran is a high contact player, and definitely wore down as the season ended.

I think that is fair. Although I think it would be incremental unless people think he has a "Nash" like elevation in him.

Have a question for everyone....assuming we don't get LeBron what becomes the Suns Priority? Maybe we should start a survey. Curious to think what the Suns community thinks should be their primary target (regardless of method to acquire him).

It's obvious that Bledsoe becomes Priority #1. But after that, I'd guess some sort of replacement for Frye, and maybe Tucker if he leaves.

Excellent thought. Why don't you make it into a thread. I know I would like to talk about it.

I can see the argument but they are two different kinds of players from what I've seen. Also Brook came on almost immediately as an impactful player, he was a higher pick yes but Len was at one point projected to go #1, even in a week draft that is a pretty high praise and evaluation of his potential.

They're definitely two different players, the analogy was just to highlight that some players, especially centres it seems, take longer to develop than others. Len only started playing the game late and is raw as hell - robin Lopez was further advanced when he hit the nba and it still took him 5 years to be any good. Seems only fair to give Len a similar time frame, with anything less a bonus.

Paul Coro @paulcoro · 2h

Tucker left town for July 1. #Suns focus shifting to retention? RT @GibbermanAZ: P.J. Tucker at Suns facility talking to Sarver & Hornacek

So I guess the Suns will be trying to keep RFA Tucker. Now what about Bledsoe.

As you know, I am a Bledsoe skeptic, but if Hayward is getting $16M per year, Bledsoe (much higher ceiling) is a bargain at $12 or $13M, or whatever the exact max is. As for morale, I don't think it would be a problem as long as Dragic gets an equal extension (or a bit more, depending on how he does next year.)

I am also guessing McD will find another player (FA, trade, etc) who will be making $10M+ per year.

Don't get me wrong, I would still prefer to send Bledsoe somewhere else and get some assets back, but when the Suns give him a max, I am not going to be as disappointed after seeing what Hayward (and even Frye) got on the open market.
Hayward has been healthy most of his career.

Same with Monroe.

Yes he has. Last year, this healthy Monroe played 82 games and led his team to 29 victories. Bledsoe, despite the fact he missed almost half the season, also led the Suns to 29 victories.

Whew, it's a good thing you have a low tolerance for weak arguments.

Okay. What did I miss? Sunsfan88 has suggested that Monroe is more worthy of a max contract because he's been healthy. You don't think it's worth noting how little that health has actually meant to the win/loss column? I know it's a team sport but it seems to me that Eric has had a far more positive impact on the outcome of games than Monroe has.

If you are injured and play less, you somehow help your team win more?

What? No. His point was that Eric wasn't worth a max contract because he missed a bunch of games and that Monroe was worth that money because he didn't miss games. Given that their actual presence on the court resulted in the same number of victories, it doesn't seem to justify Monroe's value being higher than Bledsoe's. At least, not in and of itself.

How does that work again?
