49ers release LB Aldon Smith
According to ESPN's Jim Trotter and later confirmed by head coach Jim Tomsula, the San Francisco 49ers have released star linebacker Aldon Smith. Last night, Smith was booked at Santa Clara County Jail for an alleged hit and run, DUI, and vandalism. He posted his $26,000 bail this morning. According to a police affidavit of Smith's arrest, an argument led to the 49ers linebacker hitting a neighbor's car - resulting in minor damage.

So much talent gone to waste. shame.

The fight was apparently over Smith’s ex-girlfriend and Hot 97 host Nessa. According to TMZ Sports, Smith and Nessa broke up in recent months and then started something new with Kap.

Financial implications of 49ers' release of Aldon Smith
Smith will not receive his scheduled base salary of $1 million, a total of $5.154 million in per-game roster bonuses or a $2 million incentive for playing 50 percent of the snaps or recording eight or more sacks.

Prior to the 49ers’ move to release Smith, his cap number was $4.854 million. Now, he’ll count $1.6 million against the cap and the 49ers have no future financial obligations to him.

The 49ers realize an immediate cap savings of $3.254 million. The 49ers now are approximately $13.3 million under the salary cap.

Ex-49ers RT Davis confirms plan to attempt '16 comeback
Former 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis, who was placed on the team’s reserve/retired list in June, confirmed Monday morning he plans to make a comeback in 2016.

When a fan asked Davis on Twitter if there’s any chance he’ll be back next season, Davis responded, “Yes, that's the Plan.”

Trent Baalke was counseling Aldon Smith when 49ers released him
49ers general manager Trent Baalke didn’t attend the team’s news conference announcing it was releasing troubled defensive star Aldon Smith.

That’s because Baakle was with Smith.

“It’s safe to say, and honest to say, that’s where I was,” Baalke told reporters (via San Jose Mercury News) Saturday. “I wouldn’t change a thing. Coach got up there and spoke very well on behalf of the organization and certainly on behalf of Aldon.

[DeAndrew] White continues to look like one of the 49ers better rookies, and on Tuesday he delivered the offensive play of the day when he tipped -- one-handed -- a deep pass to himself along the sideline.

Center Daniel Kilgore has gone from crutches two weeks ago to cane last week and on Tuesday was walking around with neither.

Lemonier's current spot was reflected on the 49ers' first depth chart of training camp, which was released on Wednesday. The 49ers open the exhibition season Saturday night against the Houston Texans. Aaron Lynch has yet to see practice in 11-on-11 settings as he returns from an injury sustained during the team's offseason program.

SANTA CLARA -- Reggie Bush's debut in a 49ers uniform will be put off at least another week. Jim Tomsula said Thursday the veteran running back would not play Saturday in Houston and that he hadn't decided whether linebacker NaVorro Bowman would suit up, either.

"If he plays, it's going to be a short block of plays," Tomsula said of Bowman, who is returning from a knee injury that wiped out his 2014 season. "It would be more for the other guys than it is for him -- breaking the huddle with his voice, that kind of stuff."

49ers’ Jerome Simpson suspended six games
Wide receiver Jerome Simpson, who had a team-high 25-yard catch Saturday for the 49ers, will be suspended for the first six games of the season for a previous violation of the NFL's substance abuse program, the team announced Tuesday.

Simpson, 29, will not count against the 53-man roster limit when the season begins. He's eligible to join the 49ers' active roster as early as October 19, one day after the team's game against the Ravens.
