There hasn't been a RB taken in the first rounds since 2012, i think?? I really like Melvin Gordon. If he's there, I'm not sure they can pass him up.

Brett Hundley is intriguing, but a) not sure if he's first round material and b) if he's an Arains type QB.

Also really like Jalen Strong, but he won't be there.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see them trade down.

I'm not really a fan of any of those picks in the first. My short list right now would be:

OL La'El Collins LSU- I think he would be a great fit at RG now and maybe RT future

OL Erick Flowers MIA- same as collins. W/O top QB we need power run game

OLB Dante Fowler FLA- Physical, good against the run and creates pressure

OLB Bud Dupree Kentucky- very quick with huge upside... rumored to run 4.5 forty with 40 vert

If we're just talking needs, I think we need 2 ILBs, a cornerback, a nose tackle, an offensive guard, maybe 2 tight ends, a running back who can carry the ball 150 times a year or so, a WR3 who can return kicks and move the chains, 2 OLBs who can contain the run and defeat single-blocking on the edge.

That's going to change with free agency. Doesn't make sense to do anything but evaluate potential prospects between now and late March.

Needs to be a LB...inside or outside.

My thoughts exactly, however, I'm more partial to an edge rusher right now whether or not it's an OLB or DE. This team got nearly zero push and zero rush on the QB, even against middle of the road offensive lines. How many times have we watched, even on blitzes, out rush get stymied leaving out DB's vulnerable because the QB has 45 minutes to find an open receiver? If we had a JJ Watt type rusher on this defense no team would stand a chance.

Calais Campbell is as close as you get to a J.J. Watt-type 3-4 pass rusher.

I think we did pretty well actually getting after the QB--or not. I guess we ended the season 28th in the NFL in adjusted sack rate, which isn't very good. I wonder if we do better with pressures; I won't know until the FO Almanac comes out in July.

Todd Gurley-RB Georgia. If he was completely healthy and played a different position, he would the the #1 rated play in the draft. He is really that good. Game breaker, impact player.

I am digging Shaq Thompson as a Daryl Washington replacement or to pair next to him depending on how that whole situation plays out.

I am a UCLA fan and if we draft Brett Hundley in the first round I will have a meltdown.

Great kid, very good college player, picking him before the late 2nd early 3rd is nuts. He has horrible pocket presence, he takes sacks over and over. UCLA completely revamped their offense 2nd half of the season to where it seemed half the passes were screens, that was entirely to stop Hundley from taking drive killing sacks.

he is one of the more polarizing players in recent years, you go on a UCLA board and people are either saying they can't wait for him to go pro, or they think he's getting unfairly blamed for having a bad OL and slow WR's and a bad OC.

Russ what do you think about Sean Mannion QB Oregon ST as a RD 3 QBOF ?I have seen him on some late games on TV and thought he looked okay. What do you think of him? I think you probably see more of the PAC guys than most of us.

I guess in pure semantics-- isn't a QB not taken in the first 40 picks or so really better defined as a project?

Totally agree. He's only slightly better than Logan throwing the rock, though he did have more than 1 outstanding game & imo is a more gifted athlete.

It just seems like when you get into the bottom 16 of the draft rankings, lots of tackles show up: Lael Collins, TJ Clemmings, Ereck Flowers, Andrus Peat -- all OTs that have ? about playing the left side and look to be a RT or slide inside to guard.

Hundley is more accurate, he can hit the open guy and make some nice throws in tight windows. But he can't read defenses or feel the pass rush. The game where he was hurt and they started Jerry Neuheisel, you had a kid who looked like they found him in the parking lot before the game, no arm at all, small looked physically overmatched, but it was remarkable to watch how the pass protection improved, how he was throwing to the right guy, even if the throw was bad etc.

One of the most common "inside" comments on Hundley on UCLA boards is he drove Mazzone nuts because they'd have the perfect play called, the guy would be breaking open, and Brett would either hold the ball, or for no reason at all start moving in the pocket so when the guy got open, Brett wouldn't be ready to throw. He destroyed the timing of the offense because he was so bad at that stuff.

He is a terrific runner but you don't survive at QB in the NFL running.

Russ, what are your thoughts on Eric Kendricks? He seems to be what we were looking for in Minter. Hes quicker and better in coverage. Never hurts when your brother is successful in the NFL too.

For anybody else, i recently watched a few games of TCU LB Paul Dawson. I really don't like to compare players from the same college because I don't think its relavent, but he has so many similarities to Dwash its scary. Has anyone else had a chance to watch him?
