MLB Hot Stove rumors: Angels close to deal with Luis Valbuena
The third baseman hit 25 homers in 2015
The Angels may be close to adding a power bat to the lineup for 2017 and beyond. Efrain Zavarce, in a report cited by Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, writes that the Angels are close to signing third baseman Luis Valbuena to a multi-year contract.

The left-handed-hitting Valbuena, 31, batted .260/.357/.459 for the Astros in 2016 with 13 home runs in 90 games. Last season he missed significant time because of a hamstring injury. In 2015, however, Valbuena hit 25 home runs for Houston. For his career he owns an OPS+ of 95 across parts of nine big-league seasons. Since his breakout in 2014, though, he's put up an OPS+ of 114 in 371 games.

MLB Hot Stove Rumors: Dodgers have asked about Profar for second base opening
Talks with the Twins about Brian Dozier don't seem to be going anywhere
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the two teams have talked.

Most of the Dodgers' preferences are not known, but they've spoken with the Rangers about infielder Jurickson Profar, sources said ... While a trade for Profar does not appear likely, the Rangers at some point will need to act on his future, particularly if they sign free agent Mike Napoli to play first base. Profar is represented by Scott Boras and under club control for only three more seasons, and his value is not likely to increase if he remains in a utility role.

How do the Dodgers keep doing this?
They draft very well, thus keeping farm stocked with pieces they can move for impact players. They also very savvy in trades: getting a nice haul for Matt Kemp as an example. That's the difference between a top notch front office and the crap we've had for the last decade.
