The Cardinals will have 20 players on the UFA market in 2017 per Spotrac. Most of them are expendable. They have a proposed market value for a few. They have Floyds' targeted market value to be at a bit over $8MM, Jones at $12.5MM and Jefferson at a tad over $6MM. I guess if their calculations are correct on market value then Jones is not worth anywhere near $16 or $17 MM. I also noted what I thihnk the team does with each player and those I left blank I really have no idea which direction the team goes with them.

Here is a link to the site. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/

It's interesting how they come up with fair compensation for the player.

Calais Campbell
Evan Mathis - Probably retires
Jermaine Gresham - Probably offered a long term contract.
Michael Floyd - Probably allowed to test the market.
Frostee Rucker
Chandler Jones - Probably offered a contract near the market value but I don't think the Cardinals overpay him.
Tony Jefferson - Probably offered a long term contract.
D.J. Swearinger - Probably offered a long term contract.
Chris Johnson - Probably not offered another contract
Kevin Minter - Probably offered a long term contract.
Mike Jenkins
A.Q. Shipley - Probably offered a long term contract.
Sio Moore
Drew Butler - Probably allowed to test the market.
Alex Okafor
Earl Watford - Probably not offered another contract
Tharold Simon
Stepfan Taylor - Probably not offered another contract
Andre Ellington - Probably not offered another contract
Marcus Cooper

In order of priority:

1. CC - FYI, hes the 2nd best DL in the NFL this year. Having the best year of his career. Hes our defensive MVP per many NFL sites. Dont offer him a 10 year deal or anything, but keep him around for 2 more years.

2. Tony Jefferson - Hes had a rough couple weeks, but usually hes the best run defending safety in the NFL. Great lockerroom guy.

3. Markus Cooper - keep him only because of the unknown. If we find somebody better, then cut him. In the meantime, keep him.

4. Chandler Jones - Tag him.

All others can go.

Chandler Jones and Tony Jefferson should be the top targets.

Would love to have CC back but I think he will want too much money.

Maybe Gresham, Swearinger, Okafor and Minter if the price is right.

But literally everybody that isn't Calais, Chandler, Jefferson, & Swearinger can go.

Calais Campbell - KEEP
Evan Mathis - bye
Jermaine Gresham - Keep
Michael Floyd - Bye
Frostee Rucker - KEEP
Chandler Jones - KEEP
Tony Jefferson - KEEP
D.J. Swearinger KEEP
Chris Johnson - :(
Kevin Minter - BYE FELICIA
Mike Jenkins - Uhhhhh
A.Q. Shipley - BYE FELICIA
Drew Butler - ****
Alex Okafor - Meh
Earl Watford - Keep for backup
Tharold Simon Keep for cheap
Stepfan Taylor - Bye
Andre Ellington - Bye
Marcus Cooper - Bye

One thing I want to bring up is I fully believe AQ Shipley is the root source of our O Line problems. We have guards making up for his stubby arms and inability to handle the bull rush. Remember against carolina and many other times INTERIOR pressure has been or biggest issues.

I don't think CC is going to end up costing as much as you think. The NFL doesn't usually pay big money for aging DL. I'm not saying he's not good but history shows most older DL are very disappointed in the open market. He may sign somewhere else once the Cards bruise his ego with their offer but he's not going to break the bank and may sign elsewhere just out of spite. Kind of like DD did and we see how that turned out.

I want the Cards to keep him but I think it will play out a long time unless the Cards initially overpay. Something Keim has not done in the past.

Campbell will find someone who will overpay him. My problem with Minter & Gresham is the same issue, they don't fit the scheme. With the receiver corp decimated, the Cards must run more. Gresham is a lousy blocker. He's okay as a receiver, which means someone will likely pay him more.

Minter is too slow to typically blitz and way too slow in coverage. He also doesn't consistently cover his area well in zone. At best he's a 2 down LB. Again I believe he'll get more money where he's a better fit.

Shipley has down a bad job on stunts and line calls. Might be brought back on a 1 year deal.

I think they also bring Chris Johnson back on a 1 year contract.

Swearinger is the key guy to keep and he won't be cheap. I'd cut Branch. They can't cut TM, but if he's hurt again they have to have Swearinger IMO!

I won't go through the full list, but the folks I think we need to keep are:

1. Chandler Jones. We will likely dust off the Franchise Tag.

2. Calais Campbell. Still a top dog and team leader. Plus Nkemd and Gunter aren't consistent enough to replace him. 4 year deal (voidable after 2)

3. Gresham. Most talented TE we've had in a LONG while. Nice to see him finally getting used as a down field receiver.

4. Never thought I'd like Tony Jefferson, but we need him back. Actually reminds me a lot of Rashad. He won't make any pro-bowls, but he's just now coming into his own. 4 year deal.

5. DJ Swearinger. After bouncing around the league, the light seems to have come on. We need his aggressive play on team filled with too many choirboys.

6. M. Cooper. We still need a #2. Bethel ISN'T it.

7. CJ2k. I'd bring him back if he would accept an incentive laden deal. Can't have too many RB's.

The only players I would re-sign are:

- Jermaine Gresham: 28yrs old, and the Cardinals have no TE's to speak of
- Chandler Jones: Franchise, or long term. You don't get rid of pass rushers, unless you have too many.
- Tony Jefferson/DJ Swearinger: Either will do. I personally like Swearinger better than Jefferson, for what we need.
- Sio Moore: This team NEEDS ILBers. They currently have 5 ILB'ers, and that includes IR, and practice squad. That is kind of ridiculous.
- Stepfan Taylor: You cannot ask for more out of a 4th string RB, FB, and special teams player.
- Marcus Cooper: But, not to start at CB #2 spot. Just for depth, and if not him, then Tharold Simon/Mike Jenkins.

Player that I would like to release but the Cardinals will have to keep: Tyvon Branch who I feel is too injury prone but so is Tyrann Mathieu.

Player that I would like to re-sign but won't fit under the cap: Alex Okafor who I thought played well in the role they had him in.

Player who I would like to change their position: Deone Bucanon. He is a safety, so he should be put at safety. Enough of this $LB madness.

I am fixated on the ILB'er position so here are some FA names I like: (remember Minter is our "best" ILBer)
- Lawrence Timmons
- Paul Worrilow
- Jon Bostic
- Kelvin Sheppard
- Audie Cole
- AJ Klein
- Christian Jones

There is also going to be a need to bring in wide recievers, not just for Floyd leaving, but John Brown's future does NOT look good:
- Markus Wheaton
- Kenny Stills
- Terrelle "Trash Can" Pryor
- Andre Holmes

.........fun to start this up again. Last year it felt (how very wrong we all were about that) that there was not much to change on the roster.
