Chicago might want a do over. Not only did the Bears pass on Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, they traded up a spot to draft Trubisky.

Corey Davis, Mike Williams and John Ross in the top 10....what could go wrong taking a WR early?

How the hell do organizations with so many professional resources get this so wrong ever year?

This board really wanted Malik Hooker S Ohio State. He has been hurt a lot but would probably have been a better pick than Reddick.

Don't anyone pretend you thought Mahomes would be what he is. No one anywhere predicted this.

I did. :self:

Exactly my thought after researching this when I posted this.

Myles Garrett was deserving but .....

Jags still searching for a QB but took a RB at #4. Another example of questionable too high RB draft picks?????

I would have chosen Watson. I remember concerns about Mahomes was accuracy. Plus the program and competition he faced.

Add in the rest of the 1st round and we possibly drafted the worst player int he 1st round last year. The only challengers are Charles Harris and Taco Charlton but he at least had 5 sacks this year.

Reddick is a SAM in a 4-3. He played his best ball late in Wilks season. He's never fit here in a 3-4. They should look to trade him to a team that's a better fit.

Not many busts in that draft. Plenty of quality.

Exactly my thought after researching this when I posted this.

I posted it a while back now but WR's are especially tricky to predict. I think the "bust rate" was 47%. That's nuts. And is exactly why I lean towards Simmons over Jeudy at this point. And Jeudy is probably the only 1st round WR I would feel confident taking.

While your at it, go look at all of the 1st round WR's since 2010 without taking some xanax. It may send you into convulsions when you start digging deeper.

I would have chosen Watson. I remember concerns about Mahomes was accuracy. Plus the program and competition he faced.

I wanted Watson..... And was stunned when we took Reddick. Why didn't we get aggressive back then!

I'm trying to understand what draft board is put together with Reddick that high. And how could he possibly make it all the way to pick 13.

Can we make a consensus here? If you are going to take a questionable shot on a high pick spot it should be for QB. Not for a WR/RB/ILB? My rules.

Agreed.

A lot of people could predict Haason Reddick being over drafted, and a poor selection.

I was on the Malik Hooker train......but Hooker gets hurt A LOT.

Would have been happy with Marlon Humphries as well.

So it’s not just Keim?

My issues with Keim is that he:

1) Looks to much at physical ability and not enough at fit, desire, and injury history. He has drafted multiple guys that fit those descriptions.

2) He let's too many good veterans go. We have all supported at least a few of the instances he has let a veteran go, but in the aggregate, he was wrong almost every time. If half of the veterans he let go had been kept, the Cardinals likely arent 5-10-1 last year.

3) He took too long to get QBOF and didnt gamble to bring one in. The 2017 draft was the perfect spot to get your QBOF. Based on Arians comments, Watson was their guy. TRADE UP to get him. If they had done so, the Cardinals would possibly have been a playoff contender this year.

At least he realized his mistakes on QB, but then he drafts Rosen, a guy who has questionable football desire and has rubbed a number of coaches and teammates the wrong way. Jim Mora's faint praise should have been a damning indictment to NOT draft Rosen.

Now Keim has one last chance in my eyes to surround Murray with players that he can win with.

The draft is basically a crap shoot - another reason to pass on a WR

FWIW I was hoping we’d take Lamar Jackson and agree that was the year to draft a QB

Keim grabs WR reaches last year. This draft is loaded with WRs . So Keim like. He needs an "analytics" guy who can see the near future.

Honestly this should be the one golden rule of the draft. I think if you look at other franchises that do well in the draft you will see this repeat itself most of the time.

I suppose if you’re looking at top of the first round, but if you’re talking just first round arguably the best organization of our lifetime took a wr (Harry) and rb (Mishel) in their last two.

People overthink it. It sounds crazy, but it is true. Also, a group think mentality and cronyism.

If you analyze this draft...the Bears went wrong valuing a QB with less reps and snaps + less success than two QBs with more experience and more success. I get the hesitation on Mahomes but there is no reason they should have taken Trubisky over Watson.

Look at the Jaguars and Fournette. It took them 2 years to use their top 10 pick on every down. Why take a RB that high and not use him on every down. And, if he isn't good enough, why are you taking him that high?

Titans, Chargers, and Bengals took WRs when they all had other significant issues. Did the Bengals really need a vertical WR at 9 when they had a QB in Dalton who does not throw vertically? Did the Chargers need another WR when they were already struggling to protect Rivers?

You look at the teams that got it right, and it isn't that they made great picks, but they made the picks that fit what they wanted to do and created value.
