J.D. Martinez received a five-year, $110M free-agent contract last offseason entering his age 30 season. Per sources, Goldschmidt will exceed that in his extension with #STLCards entering his age 31 campaign.

How were they going to sign him when they weren't even willing to spend $12M a year to keep Pollock? This team is tapped out (well Kendrick has reached what he is willing to pay). I wouldn't hold my breath for Bradley and Ray staying past their arbitration years unless they can be had for a song.

I’m still not sure about that. The new regime seems to be more inclined to pay for what you’re going to give them rather than what you’ve given them. I doubt his production falls off a cliff but they got his best and after the last two Septembers they were ready to move on. FTR I would’ve kept him over the crappy return we got.

Wrote today that an extension for Verlander with #Astros would appear to be a long shot. Sources today indicating a two-year deal for more than $60M is at least possible. Verlander earning $28M in 2019 and would want to approach Greinke’s record $34.4M AAV for a starting pitcher.

Chris Sale extension with #RedSox will be five years, $145 million, sources tell The Athletic. Sale will earn $15M this season in final year of current deal. Extension is pending physical. Will run from 2020 to ‘24.
