Teams passed on Dejounte Murray last season for similar reason and Murray after just his rookie season has developed into a top 3 defender at the PG position.

I’ll trust the Sours judgement on this. Last pick they had in the teens was Kawhi Leonard and I’d say he’s worked out well.

He was picked by the Pacers and then traded to the Spurs for George Hill. I'm not sure if the Pacers picked him for the Spurs or if they did it on their own though. All in all, I think the Spurs do a decent job of drafting and an excellent job of developing but they make their draft mistakes too.

Spurs first rd picks since Tony Parker:

John Salmons
Beno Udrih
Ian Mahinmi
Tiago Splitter
George Hill
James Anderson
Corey Joseph
Livio Jean-Charles
Kyle Anderson
Nikoli Mulutinov
Dejounte Murray
Derrick White

*traded for Kawhi
Nice list, how many of those players were drafted in the teens? Considering the post you quoted, it’s utterly pointless to give the list without that.

He was picked for the Spurs by the Pacers. Similar to how Dragic was picked for the Suns by the Spurs.

They do make their mistakes like everyone but for the most part, especially in the teens, it’s rare in Pop era.

Considering how many project Walker to be the next Donovan Mitchell, I’d be surprised if the pick doesn’t work out.

I just looked it up and you're right the deal was in play once Kawhi was still available on the Pacers clock. Like I've said a few times now, they do a solid job drafting. But teams passed on Walker not because they doubted his potential, they had concerns about his knee.

Why? Lots of teams draft solid players after the teens...
Because the post you quoted of mine specifically mentioned first rd picks they’ve had in the teens?

It would like you asking me which McDonalds location in Arizona is the best and me pointing you in the direction of one in Florida.

Gotcha. I thought you were implying the Spurs to be extraordinary drafters even tough they’ve missed on a lot of picks when really good players were available.
