Diamondbacks 1B prospect Pavin Smith went 4-for-4 with a double and two walks on Sunday for Double-A Jackson.
The four-hit day improves Smith's line to .261/.357/.433, giving the 23-year-old a .790 OPS on the year. The Diamondbacks drafted Smith with the seventh pick of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Virginia, and in all honesty, he hasn't looked the part; struggling to hit for average and power at a position that demands it. There's been flashes -- like Sunday -- but he's going to have to show more consistency if he's ever going to be anything more than an organizational player. Here's hoping he's a late-bloomer, because he looked like a legitimate option coming out of the ACC two years ago.

Now that Goldy is gone the Dbacks have one of the worst rosters for home grown talent.
Hopefully they can start getting that turned around today but most of their draft picks in recent years have been garbage.

The Dback farm system is better than it was a few years ago - that is just starting to reach the majors, so it would show in this ranking. It took a hit with Goldy and AJ gone.

Also - methodology is a little suspect, if you exclude players like Ahmed who spent majority of Minors career in the Dbacks system (especially when we used "homegrown players" to trade for him.

It also ignores players like David Peralta just because another team initially signed him as a 16 year old before releasing him - Peralta and his 3.4 WAR should be included
