That's not right. He danced around the question he was asked about Ben Simmons to avoid tampering fines. He was asked specifically about Ben Simmons and said he's a fine player but they had Draymond already who plays a similar role so they didn't have that much interest.

Its gotten to the point where an owned or GM can't say anything because they'll get slapped with a fine. There needs to be some common sense applied to the tampering rules. Especially since it only applies to 29 teams in the league, the Lakers can do whatever.

I really hope Kyrie digs in and gets locked out of playing at home.

The Bucks waive PF Mamadi Diakite. I saw him play in one game. He wouldn't be a terrible camp invite if the Suns were so inclined.

I'd rather take a flyer on Daniel Oturu, who was just waived by the Grizzlies.

Sad that we were hoping for a major acquisition at power forward, and now we're looking at scraping the bottom of the barrel and bringing in guys waived by our playoff competitors.

Don't say WE. YOU were hoping for one while the vast majority of people wanted a quality backup for Ayton and to improve our depth elsewhere if the opportunity presented itself.

What's this "we" crap? A major acquisition at power forward would have been great but almost every person on the planet, not to mention Mars and Jupiter too, knew that it wasn't in the cards for us. We didn't have the money or the assets to acquire a good power forward.

For those saying we didn't have the money or assets to acquire a serviceable power forward, just remember that the Suns left $10 million in salary cap exemptions on the table, and several other teams picked up serviceable power forwards for the MLE or less.

This isn't the Suns not having the money or assets. This is Robert Sarver being cheap...again...

Explain the 10 million and who are all those serviceable power forwards you're talking about that were acquired on the free agent market for the MLE or less?

@AzStevenCal

The Suns have the remainder of MLE (4.5 million), BAE (slightly under $4 million) and the Disabled Player Exception about half of Saric's salary ($4 plus million).

That's actually about about $12 million although the Suns are unlikely to use the Disabled Player Exception.

Non-Taxpayer MLE is $9,536,000 this year, $10,012,000 next year and $10,489,600 the year after that. Basically $10 million per season over 3 seasons.

Bi-Annual Exception is $7,650,600 over 2 years ($3,732,000 this year and $3,918,600 next year).

The Suns signed JaVale McGee for 1 year, $5,000,000 and left the rest on the table, signing only minimum guys for the remaining roster spots.

Let's say that the Suns instead give McGee a deal for the BAE for 2 years, $7,650,600. That would have left the entire MLE to spend. In the alternative, even as it stands, the Suns could have signed two more players this year, one at $4,536,000 and one at $3,732,000.

Here are some of the power forwards that were signed for one of those three slots, many for much less:

Jarred Vanderbilt
Taj Gibson
Jeff Green
Bobby Portis
Trey Lyles
Patrick Patterson
Paul Millsap
LaMarcus Aldridge
Blake Griffin
James Johnson
Nemanja Bjelica
Semi Ojeleye

You're saying the Suns couldn't have brought ONE of these guys in by paying slightly more than what he got elsewhere???

Or heck, if you somehow think the Suns are set at power forward, you're fine with the Suns leaving the $9-10 million on the table (depending on whether you think McGee would have taken a 2 year deal at the BAE, which I think he would have) and signing only minimum guys after McGee? You don't think that reeks of the same penny pinching we saw out of Sarver in the Nash era?

Maybe we could have signed one of the bad ones on that list but no, no way in hell were we getting guys like Portis, Aldridge or Griffin and you know it. We had bits and pieces of that 10 million available, that's not the same thing as having 10 million to spend on a player. And some of the guys on that list would likely never see minutes for us in a contested game.
