It turned out that way, but the charges were enough to keep us from going after him. Which really sucked because of his Valley ties (8th grade through college). At only 20 years old, he was one of the youngest defensive players ever drafted.
That and his very mid workout. He ran like a 4.8 40.

This was very early internet but I remember hearing reports of him having off the field concerns. I think being from AZ worked against him in the Cards’ view. They didn’t like his crew he hung with and thought it would be an issue staying in town. Had he been the same player/person but from Florida or somewhere else he’s probably a Card.

Suggs + Dockett + Dansby would’ve been a swagtastic defensive core.

Money grab or not, Suggs was facing felony aggravated assault charges. He wasn't cleared until 2 months after the draft. And Bill Bidwill was still running the team.

That's quite a bit different than the disorderly conduct and property damage charges that Kirk was facing.
Agree to disagree but I'm not letting ownership or front office off that easy. They botched a sure thing. It was a parking lot altercation at a basketball game between a bunch of kids. Anyone who did their due diligence could ascertain that the charges wouldn't stick (especially for a star athlete with NFL resources). They got cute and traded away an opportunity for a stud pick in exchange for two mid/later round flyers.
I still remember settling in to my seat at the NYNY sportsbook that day waiting for us to pick the hometown boy. Even our inept front office couldn't be stupid enough to blow a sure thing pick at a position of need.

Absolutely.
The Cardinals have been on the wrong side of proving this theory many times. You would think they would learn their lesson.
AP > Levi
Urlacher > Thomas Jones
Suggs > Pace/Skillet Hands
To be fair Jones had a few good years Just not with Us same with Pace
