So he (or more likely his agent) are trying to create a de facto no trade clause. Portland will probably give in but they are fools to do so. IMO they should honor his request to not be traded anywhere other than Miami by keeping him. Go public with something like this "losing one of the all time great players is obviously going to hurt this franchise, taking back negative value for him will just set us back even further as we endeavor to build a winning team".
It's really an interesting situation. Portland doesn't have much to lose by waiting - but Dame is scaring other teams away from even making decent offers for him.

To me I think OKC should make an offer of like 4 firsts and a player or two. They basically are a playoff team with a bunch of young assets and they still have like 15 first rounders saved up. Dame can BS all he wants, but he would report there and have a legit chance, especially if some of their young guys make strides.

OKC isn't going to have a way to keep all these draft picks anyway.

The Pacers look like they know what they are doing, trading 2 second round picks for Obi Toppin.

That's a steal. I like Toppin. I think that's what made JJ get on the phone and find us some 2nd rounders. We could have made the same deal. Who wouldn't like that?

That would have been sweet. Lots of good players have been available on the cheap.

Can we trade picks for players with our current cap situation? Or would we have to include a player to make salaries match?

We can bring in someone making $5.2 million from the trade exception we have from trading Saric last year. So anyone making that much or less.

It's been said the exception is 4.8m but the 110% rule applies since we're in the tax so we can go slightly over it, which is where I've seen the $5.2m number come into play.

Cam Johnson's contract with the Nets is a lot more team friendly than at first glance.

It's effectively 4 years at $94.5 million.

Let's be honest, "Brittney really hit herself in the face" was the outcome we were all expecting.

It sounds like the Trail Blazers want a Durant type trade for Damian Lillard.

By Michael Kaskey-Blomain By Michael Kaskey-Blomain 10 mins ago • 2 min read, CBS Sports:

Understandably, Portland is seeking a hefty haul in return for Lillard in any potential trade. Their asking price is reportedly set at around four first round picks and two quality rotation pieces.

They have to find a team willing to trade away their future to win now, and it has to be a team that hasn't already done so.

Boston?

The thing is that Dame, as good as he is, is not KD.

Just a purely theoretical question, if we could trade Beal for Dame straight up, would you do it? I understand why we can't. So just from a team make up perspective.

I think the Trail Blazers will eventually get a trade done with the Heat for Lillard.

I think Dame wants Miami for his family. Boston, lot's of black players say they hate playing there. There's a lot of racism in that building during games. Why would you want to move your family there?

It would be like a CP3 thing. Right now Dame is better than Beal. But Beal will be better longer and is possible to play with Book until Book's next contract, since Book and Beal's contract end dates match. You go with a longer or shorter window?

I like how Yuma explains it. I would not make that deal. How much of a drop off is it from Dame to Beal??

I think with Beal/Book/KD thats enough firepower. If we were on the edge and Dame/Book/KD gets us over that hump then yea I would say lets go for it then. More firepower would be nice but I feel having more years would be better if there is not a huge drop off between the two and we get a few more competitive years.

I think Dame is better than KD is now. Dude scored 71 last season. He had a 50, 60, and 71 point game last season. That's crazy. They're different players though so it's tough to properly compare them. I would swap Beal for him in a second though because Dame is a better scorer, shooter, and competitor than Beal. Plus he'd be a better fit as more of a natural PG than either Beal or Booker.

I know it makes the window shorter if that deal was done but I think it would make us favorites by a decent margin. We'd have the chance to win now and the following season. A 3-Peat would be tough but hey, we'd have 2 so who cares if they fell short going for 3.

Of course it'd never happen, and wouldn't have with the assets we traded for Beal either. Dame doesn't have the NTC that Beal did where he controlled the situation.

So my thinking went further. I know Cam Payne's contract is about 6 million. My question is could we use Payne $6 mil + TE $5.2 = roughly $11.2 mil, for a player in that price range?

Not a lot of guys in that price range that moves the meter, though.

No. Trade exceptions can not be combined with players.

Watching Wembanyama in SL right now and it's clear that he is a talented dude, but he's gonna need to add a significant amount of bulk and hopefully stay healthy in the process.

He also doesn't play very hard? He's coasting up the court even back on defense where he can block shots he's just not running. Maybe he's not in shape yet don't know but he's going to have to up his motor

I heard the commentator talking about how his offense will be easier to come by in the NBA than it was in Europe. Not sure I agree, mainly because it's not like he was playing in the top league in Europe.
