How can we just let him walk away? Is this how you build a team?

Maybe it's his decision? Maybe he wants to test the market and thinks he can get more money?

He's worth what we pay him, if he wants more then good luck to him. But he's far from irreplaceable. He's one of the worst coverage backers in the league. He's very prone to getting lost with his eyes locked on the backfield and letting TE's and receivers run by him. Especially on crossing routes. Lots of that this year.

What makes you think there’s a plan to upgrade?

The fact they aren't resigning him is a fair indication.

Although, this could be his decision, in which case there's nothing we can do about it.

Players like to test the market. He probably has an offer from us and wants to see if he can beat it. Which is what I would do too if I was an aging LB on possibly my last opportunity to get paid.

But it's not something fans should be crying about. I'd be fine if he stayed, it's one less position to worry about, but at the same time he's a bang average player and bad in coverage.

It's not a terrible FA class to let him test the market. Dre Greenlaw, Devin Bush, Ernest Jones and Zach Baun are all upgrades, but guys like Tyrel Dodson, EJ Speed, Robert Spillane and Jamien Sherwood are either a wash or a slight upgrade.

My personal preference would be Devin Bush. Top 10 pick, had a good rookie season, then tore his ACL and never got back, went to the Brown's this year and had a great season on a poor defense. Looked back to himself.

Despite a good season as a unit there's not a player on this defense that can't be upgraded outside of Budda.

Cards may have to overpay slightly but they can keep him. He’s not a fit for every defense.

Players read this board. Zach Pascal did everything that was asked of him.
He had four tackles and caught four out of fifteen passes in *two* years. He didn’t add much of anything but please feel free to point out where I’m wrong. It’s also a weird take from you in general when you have so many posts opining on the performance of players.

Right!

Who are these superstars? A 34 year old Kahlil Mack? A 32 year old Javon Hargrave?
Unfortunately the stars on defense were available LAST YEAR in FA and trade (when we had a war chest of picks to trade) when we decided to overspend on two journeyman DL and then sat on a disgusting amount of million of cap room after.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't come back; that would be hugely disappointing. He's almost certainly worth more to us than anyone else. I'm sure he thought he'd get done in-season.

I agree 100%. His physicality and leadership were a big part of this defense exceeding expectations. I would be massively disappointed if he isn't brought back.

I feel like people are echoing Harry and just back-filling a guy who might be on the way out by saying he sucks in coverage. People are happy to excuse Budda for being bad in coverage because of pass rush, etc. White was a safety before he was a linebacker; his coverage skills are fine.

I look at our LB position as positions we can definitely do better. It's not that Kyzir White sucks, it's that he's so average. I would say his pass defense is better than his play against the run. If we re-sign him, fine. But we need to upgrade our LB corps. It's not physical enough. Wilson Sr and White are smart, have decent speed. But if a lineman gets their hands on them they are basically done for the play.

One problem we have when it comes to upgrading that position is ILB in this draft is pretty weak.

Right I like white as well and I think he’s a good fit for this defense but it seems to be a solid FA year for ILBs so maybe the team thinks they can get a cheaper option like a bush, jones or a Sherwood. I would like to get a guy who is good at coverage if we don’t bring white back because of Mack Wilson’s weakness there.

I’m not a big PFF fan but just for kicks they have his cover skills at 32. They’re far from perfect, but thats what they saw. Run defense is at 73.

Isn't White like 27 and he played every game this season?

I would say see if they can resign him but I think we could also find a replacement skill wise but not necessarily leadership wise.

His pass coverage will improve once the pass rush improves. That goes for everyone on defense who defends the pass.

After his coach named his kid after him, I think it’s fair to say he’s wanted here. Just a guess.
