Apr. 8—ALL-AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL

FIRST TEAM

Hadley Sammons

Senior

Windom

Sammons put together one of the all-time great careers in Windom girls basketball history. She's second in school history in career points (1,606) and is the all-time leader in assists (659) and steals (415). Her 487 rebounds are also eighth in school history. She capped off her impressive career with 15.6 points, 6.6 assists and four rebounds per game. She was named all-Big South Conference as one of the top guards of the area and the facilitator of Windom's offense. She was the first girl in school history to reach 500 assists, which she achieved Dec. 17 against Worthington, and she also averaged 4.3 steals per game last year en route to a 20-7 record.

Rylie Cother

Senior

Jackson County Central

Over her varsity career at JCC, Cother has emerged as one of the top players in the state. She capped off a record-setting career with a stellar season where she was named all-Big South Conference and a Minnesota all-state honorable mention. Cother scored a season-record 821 points on a 30.4 per-game average. She scored 50 or more points twice during the season, including a school-record 61 against Maple River. She averaged 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 4.1 steals per game and led JCC to a 20-7 record. Cother's JCC career ended with six school records and nearly 2,500 points. She is committed to play basketball at Winona State University.

Madyson Fey

Senior

Southwest Minnesota Christian

Fey has become one of the area's best over the last two seasons. She is a versatile player with speed and strength to score in the paint and a nice shooting touch from behind the 3-point line. She was also a very athletic and aggressive player on the defensive end. Fey averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals per game her senior year as she helped SWC continue its long history of success in girls basketball with an 18-10 record. Her career with the Eagles ended with 1,503 points, 521 rebounds, 223 assists, 197 steals and a 36% 3-point percentage. She surpassed the 1,000 point benchmark Dec. 12 against Red Rock Central.

Shandra Cuperus

Junior

Adrian/Ellsworth

Cuperus helped lead the Dragons to one of its best seasons in recent memory where they went 18-9 and made a run to the South Sub-Section 3A championship game. The junior forward was the team's leading scorer at 16.3 per game. She eclipsed the 20-point mark eight times, including 24 in the south sub-section semifinal win over Southwest Minnesota Christian. Cuperus also grabbed 9.9 rebounds a game, achieved a double-double 15 times and averaged 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals as well. After a junior year where she made her first all-Red Rock Conference team, Cuperus is at 739 points and 484 career rebounds with one season left to go.

Leah Carter

Junior

Westbrook-Walnut Grove

The junior post had a breakout season for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls team. She helped lead the Chargers to another solid season with a 19-8 record despite graduating some key players the year before. Carter scored 18.5 points per game and shot 45% on her two-point shots, 31% on her 3-pointers and 73% from the free throw line. She averaged a double-double this year with 13.1 rebounds a game. 8.6 of her boards per game came on the defensive end and the other 4.5 were on offense, which gave her team many second-chance opportunities. She was also effective as a low-post defender with 52 steals and 23 blocks. She was named all-Red Rock Conference for the first time.
