Monti Ossenfort on 98.7: “Does Kyler have to play better? Absolutely.” Wants more consistency from the team & their QB, stressing the need to elevate in key moments. But he knows when “Kyler is humming,” the Cardinals are tough to beat.

Listening to Michael Bidwill on 98.7 FM just now and anyone thinking this team is going to be aggressive in FA should disavow themselves of that notion right now.

He immediately started talking about not being able to spend whatever it takes because of salary cap constraints, and that you often have to overpay in FA, then talked about building through the draft, then talked about how many guys were coming back off IR and how BJ Ojulari was going to be dominant.

But what was really just sad was hearing the radio guys just be utter wimps when asking the toughest question. They tried to lob a softball and saying is this the year where you can really go for it in FA now that the base is built and Michael responded what do you mean? They then stumbled for words when the obvious thing they wanted to and should have said was: Are you going to sit on 30 million of cap space again this year? Instead, they just backed down.
Sad but not unexpected. We know MB is a freaking cheapskate and this just proves Monti isn't allowed to spend, for me. I can maybe allow some leeway there, but not much, for Monti.

Gah, but I'm glad I don't have to listen to AZ media coverage (or non-coverage, as it were) of the Cards.

: "We are going to be active (in free agency). We're going to look for every avenue to improve the team, but we have to be smart about not only this year's team, but as we build for the future and our own players that we want to extend.

FWIW, I think owners are speaking to "dumb fans" when they say this. There are still a lot of people out there who will be mad/disappointed if we don't sign or publicly pursue, like Tee Higgins, the KC guard, and Sweat.

I don't think it's productive to be pre-disappointed; everyone here is already furiously lowering expectations.

Ima need Jalen to work that number down to something reasonable.

Why? We have more cap space than we can spend; 2025 is his walk year. Are you going to feel super-good about asking him to eat a salary cut from $7.6MM to $4 million? Do you really think that will make a difference?

Michael Bidwill to @Bickley_Marotta on the reasoning for the 20-40% price hike in season tickets:“We’ve seen inflation, and it’s impacted our business too, the sports industry. So we’ve got to continue to keep up. We're trying to offer more value when we do that."

Oh, fudge you, Bidwill. Ima going to skimp on the team but damnit, I need more money! IMO, he is worse than his father because at least his father had excuses as to why he was a cheapskate. Michael has none.

Michael Bidwill on 98.7 on season tickets being sold: “It drives us crazy…we feel like we’ve addressed it…we’re addressing it.”Worth noting that other franchises track and penalize their season tickets holders for selling on third-party websites.Keep this in mind...

Interestingly I listened to Bidwill and Monti this morning and came away with a much different impression than those on the board regarding spending in free agency. They definitely are going to go out and be aggressive in free agency but also try to be smart in doing so. They know they will have to overpay to be competitive but don't want to get into a very unfavorable contract.

I can both sides of interpretation on this one. I'll wait until April 1st to make judgement. If free agency is a dud, then I'll ready to call out Monti as failing. This is the offseason I expected money to be spent and I hope I'm right.

Hopefully it means they'll be aggressive in younger free agents, rather than spending or overspending for the Dwight freeneys of the world. They're going to want guys that can have an impact immediately and in the future not just be one year and done.

Getting the another season of being well under the cap vibes.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Only morons build teams in FA. Of all the options it's the least value and the highest chance of striking out.

FA is for building your depth and breadth of the roster, along with later round draft picks. If you want to add stars you try draft them and you trade for them.

He may well be many things, but he's not wrong on this and it's literally how every team thinks.
