The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of a miserable 2024-25 season as they have been hit with every injury under the sun at this point. Joel Embiid's season is finished after only playing 19 games. Paul George is done after only 41 games. Prized rookie Jared McCain only played 23 games and Eric Gordon only played 39 before his season was cut short.

The Sixers are also dealing with injuries to Tyrese Maxey, Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., and others at the moment as the focus is now turned toward the draft. As Philadelphia sits at 23-45 and 6 games back of the final play-in spot in the East with 14 games left, the possibility of the play-in and the playoffs is unlikely.

At the moment, the Sixers have the sixth-worst record in the league. If that holds, and the lottery is kind to them, then they will keep their top 6 protected pick. A mock draft performed by Bleacher Report has them selecting Texas freshman scorer Tre Johnson with the No. 6 pick:

The 20.2 points per game, incredible shotmaking and polished footwork for self-creation have scouts seeing certainty. The perceived high floor should ultimately lock him into the tier behind Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper.

The question is how the teams picking No. 3 through 10 view Johnson's ceiling, as there is more debate about how a lack of rim pressure and free-throw attempts will affect his trajectory as a scorer.

However, the tape clearly shows a more useful passer (than the numbers suggest) who can leverage his gravity into playmaking. Johnson will ultimately look like a safe pick after Flagg and Harper, and some scouts believe that it's overthinking to drop him outside the top five.

Johnson is a terrific scorer who looks like an NBA player right now. It will be interesting to see if he can lead the Longhorns on a deep run into the NCAA Tournament, but first, they have to get past Xavier in the First Four on Wednesday night.
