With the NFL draft almost here, we will be taking a position-by-position look at the current state of the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster.

Up next are the wide receivers.

Who's on the roster at wide receiver for the Jaguars?

  • Dyami Brown
  • Brian Thomas Jr.
  • Joshua Cephus
  • Gabe Davis
  • Louis Rees-Zammit
  • Austin Trammell
  • Parker Washington
  • David White Jr.

Free agency moves at wide receiver

This was a position group where the Jaguars were very active around the free agency period.

Before the free agency period officially opened, the Jaguars traded Christian Kirk to Houston and cut Devin Duvernay and Josh Reynolds to free up cap space. In addition to that, Jacksonville also chose not to bring back Tim Jones.

With a shorthanded room numbers-wise, GM James Gladstone would sign Dyami Brown to a one-year, $10 million deal.

As both Gladstone and Liam Coen have described, Brown adds run after the catch ability to the offense and a vertical presence to pair with Brian Thomas Jr. Having that downfield ability within an offense is important and can open up opportunities elsewhere. With Brown able to fill that role, it then frees up Thomas to attack other levels of the field.

“I think it's just another ball in hand athlete who can also take the top off the defense," Coen said of Brown on Action Sports Jax via Big Cat Country. "We can't have it so that BT is always running vertical down the field or we're not going to be able to target him quite as much.

"You start to get further and further down the field, sometimes that percentage goes lower and lower. So, okay, we added a piece that helps get somebody else down the field where BT doesn't have to be that."

Brown hasn't had overwhelming production in his career. In fact, his 308 receiving yards during the 2024 regular season were a career high for him. However, he would have a huge postseason, which included totaling 89 yards in the NFC wildcard round and 98 yards in the divisional round.

Gladstone believes that there is more out there for Brown, whom he views as an ascending player.

"I think it's easy to look at Dyami's career path and trajectory and know that he's ascending right the way that he closed out last season was nothing short of impressive, and we look for him to carry that into his one-year contract with us," Gladstone said. "He took a bet on himself that a year from now, given the opportunity that he sees here with the Jacksonville Jaguars, that he's going to take another step and earn an even larger contract."

Need at wide receiver in the NFL draft

Just from a numbers and roster-building perspective, receiver is very much a need for the Jaguars. As highlighted above, they moved on from four wide receivers this offseason and only brought three in.

But going beyong that factor, while the passing game is going to run through Thomas, as Liam Coen described recently, spreading the ball around is an important element as well. Parker Washington and Brown are two players that Coen mentioned would be spotlighted in the passing game, but the presence of those two on the roster shouldn't stop the Jaguars from adding to this room.

A primary purpose of spreading the ball around in the passing game is to help take some of the attention off Thomas. But in order for that to happen, a team needs reliable options on the depth chart. Certainly, Washington and/or Brown can provide that, but I wouldn't call that a given, nor does it mean there isn't room for an upgrade at either spot. So when there are unknowns, a team should give themselves options.

In addition to all of that, let's not forget that the draft is about planning ahead as well, and as we look ahead to 2026, Brown is a free agent, Washington will be in the final year of his deal, and Gabe Davis could be a cut candidate.

ESPN analysts Jordan Reid and Ben Solak have both mentioned the early portion of Round 2 as an opportunity for the Jaguars to add to this position.
