The noise around RHP Shelby Miller making the #Dbacks Opening Day roster just got a bit louder today. Miller faced 5 batters, striking out 4 of them. Miller has 11 SO over 6.2 innings of work this Spring (5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB).

Rene Pinto has been saying his goodbyes in the clubhouse. Assuming this means Jose Herrera will be the backup catcher, as expected. Pinto likely will be DFA’d. We’ll see if he gets through waivers or is traded before that.

Ildemaro Vargas’ locker has been cleared out at Salt River Fields. Garrett Hampson has apparently made the team. Vargas has the ability to opt out if another club offers him a big league opportunity. Otherwise he will head to Reno.

Neither of those was a big surprise although Vargas did have a great spring. Hampson gives them a little more versitility since he also plays outfield, but I don't expect him to be here all year unless there's injury problems.

The Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller has exercised an upward mobility clause in his contract. The club can keep him from going elsewhere by adding him to the roster, which is what is expected to happen. He has had a strong spring and looks likely to win a bullpen job.
