The Seattle Seahawks have shown interest in free-agent guards. General manager John Schneider has decided against signing any of them. On Monday, Dillon Radunz, who had visited the Seahawks, signed with the New Orleans Saints instead. Other potential targets like Teven Jenkins (Cleveland Browns) and Lucas Patrick (Cincinnati Bengals) also signed elsewhere.
Interestingly enough, the free-agent market is still flush with potential upgrades at guard for the Seahawks. Will Schneider pivot and show interest now that his initial targets are all off the market? We've identified three available talents in particular.
Brandon Scherff is a veteran guard who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. The aging Scherff is no longer the five-time Pro Bowler he once was, but he's still a steady contributor. He played more than 1,000 snaps in 2024, earning a grade of 74.5 from Pro Football Focus in pass protection.
The Seahawks have signed a ton of talent from within their NFC West division this year, including Cooper Kupp and Eric Saubert. How about Will Hernandez, a guard who played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2024? Hernandez was legitimately good, allowing zero sacks, whistled for just two penalties.
Dalton Risner was a late addition to the Minnesota Vikings last season. He blocked for new Seahawks starting quarterback Sam Darnold. That familiarity should make him a potential target. Risner also didn't allow any sacks in protection, and forfeited just 16 pressures in more than 530 total snaps.
