The 2024-25 season has, obviously, been a miserable one for the Philadelphia 76ers. It hasn't been anything close to what they were hoping for when they brought in Paul George on a 4-year $212 million deal in the offseason. They were expected to be a championship contender and get over the hump in the East.

Instead, the Sixers are sitting at 23-50, and with nine games remaining in what has been an injury-riddled season, they will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season. George only played 41 games, Joel Embiid only played 19, and Tyrese Maxey has only played 52 thus far as he's been limited by back and finger issues as of late.

During this final stretch of the season, the focus for the Sixers will be on development of the youngsters and being in the right position to keep their top 6 protected draft pick. Here are three players who need a strong finish to the 2024-25 season for Philadelphia:

Jared Butler

Butler is averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 40.6% from the floor and 28.8% from deep in 18 games with nine starts for the Sixers following his acquisition at the trade deadline. In these final 10 games, Butler needs to show that he can shoot the 3-ball a bit more consistently in order to show that he can be in the rotation in the future. On Monday, he shot 5-for-9 from deep in the road trip finale against the New Orleans Pelicans and then shot 4-for-7 from deep against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. That has to be carried over going forward.

Guerschon Yabusele

Yabusele has been terrific in his first season in Philadelphia averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 50% from the floor and 38.5% from deep. With that being said, he seems to be winding down a bit. Whether it's been a bothersome right knee or the amount of minutes he's played, Yabusele has slowed. He's averaging 9.7 points and shooting 46.1% from the floor and 28.9% from deep over his previous 11 games. He needs a strong final nine games heading into free agency in the summer.

Ricky Council IV

The second-year forward has had an up-and-down 2024-25 season. He was expecting to be a part of coach Nick Nurse's rotation, but that hasn't been the case. He's only shooting 39% from the floor overall and 27.3% from deep. He will receive ample opportunity to do something in these final nine games as he will likely be starting most--if not all--of the final nine and needs to show Nurse and the staff that he can be a part of this team's future. His contract is not guaranteed for the 2025-26 season so he needs to show something in order to stick with the Sixers.
