INDIANAPOLIS − Kelvin Sampson is in somewhat familiar surroundings.
The former Indiana Hoosiers coach was in the Final Four just four years ago in Lucas Oil Stadium.
That run came with a limited amount of fans.
On Friday night, Sampson's Houston Cougars will be in a stadium full of fans, many of them wearing Purdue basketball apparel.
Kelvin Sampson met with media members on Thursday to talk about his team's Sweet 16 showdown with the Boilermakers.
More: Sweet 16 difference maker for Purdue basketball? Trey Kaufman-Renn. But not as a scorer
As head coach at Indiana, Sampson was 2-1 against Purdue. Asked about facing Boilermaker coach Matt Painter, Sampson said, "I really don't look at it like that. I don't coach against Matt Painter. We coach against Matt Painter's team. And his team is good enough to beat just about anybody. Braden Smith, (Trey) Kaufman-Renn, (Fletcher) Loyer, they're all winners. They've been to a level that proves what a great program Purdue is. They got to the championship game last year. I remember coaching against Purdue when coach (Gene) Keady was there. Purdue has always been one of the great programs, not just good teams, but great programs in our game. So it's an honor to be able to play against a great program like Purdue."
