Why is everyone so intigued with 40 times at WR??

Last i checked I dont remember Jerry Rice haveing anything better than a 4.6 40 time in an article I read yet you never saw him get caught from behind???

Some guy named Steve Largent Im quite certain he was no blazing 40 timer either and he was a legit #1 and an all time great??

Fred Belitnakoff anybody???

Im quite certain there are many others as well. In fact Marty Booker with the bear is not what I would call a speedster???

Just curious why all the inrigue over this??

Stretching the field. Booker doesnt have to do it b/c they have dez white. Rice is well, just Rice-hes the greatest of all time. I agree 40 times are not as important as some might think, but if you are looking for a deep threat then they are the most important in my eyes.

Having said that, there is something about the steve largeants, wayne chrebets, marty bookers, of the world, who although not quick have a knack for getting open and making plays.

I agree to an extent thats why I brought Rice up though. While we all know hes the greatest of all time he made a living of stretching the field and that was really with average speed. So how did he do it?

Your last paragraph is so true!
