what a ridiculous salary to pay a barely-proven coach.

This. I like Harbaugh and think he will be fine but paying him close to what multi-Super Bowl winning coach Belichick makes ($7.5 Million) is a little foolhardy. But eh, its not my money.

Don't think that even plays into it when you are making that kind of money and you have to uproot your entire family. Especially for most people.
I don't think that matters... it happens all the time.

Really? can you show me any evidence of an athlete specifically uprooting their family strictly due to sate taxes?

I meant for a good job, not necessarily for just state taxes. I thought that's what you implied.

Yeah but Florida has no income tax!!!!

I love that argument. I can hardly believe that matters to someone who is about to sign a multi million dollar contract.

the difference is 9.3% of income. If he is making $8mm per year, that is $744,000 a year in extra income in Florida vs California.

Does anyone think $744k a year doesn't matter, even if you are making $8mm?

If the Schefter reports and the Niners beat writers reports are right then the money issue is more then just a state taxes issue.

Niners are reportedly offering 4.5 to 5.5 mill. Dolphins are offering 7 to 8 mill.

"Sorry kids I dont care how many friends you got at school you are moving."

This news will also have a huge fan reaction if the Dolphins end up getting him. First the fans have been shooting their loads all over this idea, they thought it was a done deal, and Jed York said money wont be an issue.

I wonder if this is ammo for the players in the CBA negotiations.

The owners are crying about not making money and then quotes like this pop up.

Things might be getting worse for the Niners. Now they could still get a decent coach not named Harbaugh, but when McDaniels turns you down there is an issue. Again they could still get a good coach but perceptions before the season starts will sting the Niners of all this happens.

Dolphins beat writers are saying it is all but a formality Harbaugh joins the Dolphins and have reported coaches packing their offices in Miami. Then this from Sando says McDaniels is turning the team down.

Sando covers more on the PR hit this could be for the Niners.

The 9ers signing McDaniels as their next head coach would be like the Cardinals signing Marc Bulger to be their next QB.

Well there's a history of sorts. The Raiders hired Shanahan from SF, and then fired him quickly, he went on to Denver and won Superbowls. Denver hired McDaniels from New England, then fired him quickly, so it's a lead pipe cinch whoever hires him is getting the next Shanahan.

That's my take on the 49ers thinking.

:D
