49ers | Team to wear throwbacks in tribute to Walsh
Wed, 8 Aug 2007 08:45:29 -0700 The Associated Press reports the San Francisco 49ers will wear their cherry-red throwback jerseys in their regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals in a tribute to former head coach Bill Walsh, who passed away July 30 after a bout with leukemia. The team plans to hold a moment of silence before their preseason opener Monday, Aug. 12, against the Denver Broncos, but elected to reserve a bigger tribute for their nationally televised season-opener against the Cardinals Monday, Sept.

That place is going to be emotionally charged!!

good. A good opening test of the mental makeup of this team early. Can be great, can be disastrous.

Those first 6 games are brutal. We need to win that game.

I feel my excitement slowing coming to me as the season nears. Just not there yet.

Aren't the 9er's current uniforms pretty much the same as those during the Walsh era? I know there are small differences, but overall who will notice?

Pantone... details?

I don't want to lose this game. Season opener. Monday Night Football. Division game. Haunts of last year's Monday Night Debacle will be mentioned. SF tribute going on. We better come out on fire.

Too bad we have to spoil the evening for them and crush them in front of a national TV audience. We'll have to wind Adub up, tell him he's a bull and he needs to go after anything that is red. It'll look like sunami in the bowling alley time.

it seems everything is alligning for the niners this season, and this game in particular. hype building. on paper: affective drafts and FA pickups. now this. it wil prove a true test for us. fold under all of it. or just completely stomp san fran week 1. im saying the latter.

Ooh! I like the old unis better. The no black piping on the pants and striped socks are tough.

I'm guessing that Pantone's SSUR got dinged by the NFL...

He used to have a complete pictorial uniform history on his site, couldn't find it in my visit there today.

And I second the notion that the opener in SF is a very important game for both the Card's and the 49er's. But moreso for the Cardinals I think.

I think the Redbirds take the night!!! GBR!

Sorry, thought it was...

Do you know what happened to the page with all the NFL uniform histories?

Oh - you're probably referring to the Football Uniforms Past & Present site (http://www.weirdwolf.net/FFP/index.htm) ... I know the guy who runs that site - and in fact, I might be taking over as a temporary host for it in the near-future.
