I posted before that we shouldn't over pay average players.

I think that Jackson is slightly above average. However he is in the prime of his career and has a ton of potential. Therefore I think it is OK to Overpay to get him in here.

It's an inflated market as far as free-agents go so every contract looks to be too much but there is nothing you can really do. Money is all the Cards seem to have right now to lure players and we have more cap space to burn. We can pay guys in our situation without being burned down the line like the tactics of Little Synder in Washington who doesn't have cap space and is really going to feel a burn later down the line.

If he can play at the level he played last year I don't think we over paid, no more than we had to, to lure when from Pittsburgh.
So time will tell, he makes the probowl, no, he stays injured and starts 8 games yes.
But you pay for potential, so......

I dont know the Hodges numbers yet but getting Jackson for $14million is not verpaying at all....The 2.75 signing bonus is alittle steep, but hey thats what they had to do!

No.

In 5 years, his salary is gonna look like a bargain. And we paid K-Lass $3.3 mil last year

For his production so far, yes I think that we overpaid, but it's the same with rookies. You pay them higher dollars on what you think that they will do. In two years I think that we will have such a bargin in Jackson that we will probably need to restructure.

I don't think that they overpaid by too much, but I am not that excited about the signing of a safety.

Obviously, he will not be playing behind the same level of talent that he had in Tampa Bay. His success will be directly related to the play of the front seven. Granted, he may get a lot of tackles, but as we know, that may not necessarily be good. In short, unless there are some changes in the Cards' front 7, this will be a token signing.

I like the fullback signing.

The defensive backfield and the front seven BOTH need upgrading. Can't complain about either.

No. We desperately needed that signing. And he's pretty good, too.

I don't think it's too high. Like Ed said, we actually saved at this spot compared to last year, so it reasons that we should be able to improve our depth elsewhere on the team. That's towards the top end for a safety, but he does have the potential to be that good, I believe. And, with a 2.75 mil bonus, it's not killer to cut him if everything that can go wrong does.

Just my opinion, but unless you have a Deion Sanders at cornerback, a dominant defense is built around the front seven. I am not advocating having bad players in the secondary, but I would like to see the significant dollars spent on the D-line and LB spot. But, in defense of the Cards, I think that they want to do so based upon what we have read about Colvin.

The deal was fair. We showed some initiative and went out and got a player form the best defense in the NFL. I am happy with these terms.

Well,
we paid 2.8M a year ave for the five years.
Pittsburgh offered 2.4M a year.
the signing bonus was the same for both teams.

Last year Lassiter received 3.3M.

I would say this is not overpaying, we got a slightly above average safety(according to another poster)for no more than a transition player cost.

Based on last year, I would state that Jackson is an upgrade from Lassiter.
