refresh rates above 60hz only create the soap opera effect on your TV. Any TV I purchase I have to dumb down the refresh rate or it looks like bad actors standing on a set in my living room.

I already have a nice 60" so no need for it.

That explains why my buddy's two 60'' flat screens look like they do. He has them set up in his ramada for watching football. If we watch a movie or something the picture seems off. Like a soap opera.

It is called "soap opera effect"

In video settings usually there is a "game mode" that dumbs it down to 60fps. There is NOTHING we watch that is over 60 FPS so when you have it set to do more, it creates ghost scenes and makes everything look terrible. Easy solution. If there is no game mode, you are turning off "motion interpolation" or something like that.

It irritates the hell out of me honestly. They do it for more life like pictures in stores but then half of america has this horrible picture and doesn't know how to fix it.

I tried watching walking dead on one before fixing it and rick was walking around with obviously fake guts all over him and it was just terrible.

I have found that higher refresh rates usually result in a much crisper picture when fast motion is involved.

It may help for sports (I have never noticed a difference) but it is horrible for movies and TV. Even with sports, it is adding ghost frames to make it appear smoother when really each frame is displayed 3 times instead of once.
