Triggered, huh?

The problem is how few black OFFENSIVE coaches there are—especially coordinators and QB coaches. I think there’s a goodly number of black assistants, but the game has changed so much and so fast that the pipeline has shifted.

The problem is probably worse in the NCAA, but there isn’t a centralized authority there. The cause doesn’t have to be racism; people are just noticing a lack of diversity and wondering how it can be fixed.

I think it's obvious there is a real problem with the number of coaches and FO personnel that are black. I feel like it's a broader problem that shouldn't be defined by one year. If five African American coaches are hired next offseason, I don't think there should be a story about how this problem has been solved either.

ARZ was one of the teams they focused on making it seem like we ditched Wilks unfairly because of his race, no mention in the report that we gave him his first HC job despite not having much experience prior oh yeah and they forgot to mention he went 3-13. It's not a race thing, if we hired Kingsbury last year and he went 3-13 with our offense looking like it did he would have been fired too or if he looks worse than Wilks did this year he could be gone next year.

Did you really expect them to mention that?

Did they comment on the disproportionate number of white players in the league too? How about Asians? Mexicans? Muslims?
Of course not. They view their job as agitators and don't care what the truth is. I've seen many stories over the years that I have had personal knowledge of that they have just flat out lied to get attention. I want to add I'm not saying I have personal knowledge about the story last night but I do about others closer to home

Let's look at the black coaches who were fired:

Steve Wilks(Arizona Cardinals)-Lowest ranked offense in nearly every offensive category. Defense that went from 6th in yards given up to 20th. Team was blown out 6 different times. Team was out of games seemingly by halftime. Had 1 game where they never crossed the 50 until the last minute of the game. Was obvious that he lost the locker room by week 12.

Hue Jackson(Cleveland Browns)-Fired midway through his 3rd season with the team. In 40 games he compiled a record of 3-36-1. Team was 2-5-1 at the time of his firing. Team went 5-3 after his departure and was a serious playoff contender.

Vance Joseph(Denver Broncos)-2 year head coaching record of 11-21. Team went from 3rd in defensive yards to 22(Joseph is a defensive coach). Team showed no improvement in 2 seasons.

Marvin Lewis(Cincinnati Bengals)-16 year head coach with the team. Compiled a record of 131-122-3 which is respectable but most glaringly his playoff record was 0-7. Was obvious the team wasn't going to get to the next level with him as head coach.

Todd Bowles(NY Jets)-4 years as head coach with the Jets. After going 10-6 in his first season, the team went 5-11, 5-11, 4-12. Defensive specialist who in his first year the team's defense was ranked 4th in yards to ranked 25th in yards in his final year. Offense was as putrid as it could get.

No rational thinking person could think that any of these men were fired due to the color of their skin. Hue Jackson should have been fired after going 1-31 in his first 2 seasons. Wilks took a team that fought tooth and nail to finish 8-8 and turned it into a laughing stock. Joseph took an above .500 team and ran them into the gutter. Lewis had more lives than a cat. And Bowles just couldn't right the ship after a good first year. And no one mentions that Dick Koetter, Adam Gase, and Super Bowl winning coach Mike McCarthy were also fired. So anyone who says these men were fired because they were black are only race bating. But wouldn't it be nice if people were hired based on merit rather than what group dynamic they belong to?

And the Cards are so racist that they were one of the first to hire a black GM who was the GM for 15 seasons and had only 3 above .500 teams in that time(1998, 2008-09) not to mention the Cards had a black head coach from 2004-2006 and had a female position coach in 2015. But we won't let facts get in the way of a good race bating.

Hue Jackson did and I'd be willing to bet that they didn't fire him after he went 0-16 because the Browns didn't want this kind of backlash even though they would have been justified because he went 1-31 in 2 seasons.

At the end of the day, I was sad to see Wilks go. Even though I was as vocal as any, in calling for him to get the ax. I always want to see black coaches excel, and pave the way for potential hires for others, but at the end of the day I want a coach who is going to get the job done, regardless of color. The problem is the fact that blacks aren't getting the benefit of doubt that white coaches are getting. Retreads, getting job after job while qualified black candidates who have been HC's with even a modicum of success are one (maybe two's) and done. Is Steve Wilks ever going to get another shot, Vance Joseph? Jim Caldwell? I can't see it.

The bottom line is simple: The scum liberal media is trying to make something out of nothing. As usual. The end.
Congrats to Michael B on winning the Pollard Award.

Bottom Line - Cards are being unfairly tagged for racism

Bottom Line - It's equally unfair to generalize. "The media" is not a giant monolyth - it's an aggregate of many folks with different opinions. Rip the opinions instead of painting everyone with a broad brush.

Bottom Line - Call it hypersensitivity to bad performance on my part but, to me, the Cardinals under Wilks were as piss-poor a football team as I can recall ever seeing. He was fired based on "merit."

Doncha think the mood and tone of this and other ASF threads have grown increasingly snarky of late?

Is it OK to call yourself a liberal and still think the Cards are being unfairly considered racist?

Is it OK to like a fellow Cardinal fan even if you disagree politically?

Is it productive use of our time to ignore the Combine, Free Agency, New Schemes and the Draft in order to attack a bunch of nerdy folks who text on their I-Phones ahead of deadline in order to earn a living?

'Scuse me - I have to go watch reruns of the 4th quarter of the Pro Bowl.

I think it's sad that this is all getting lumped into the quest for diversity. The moves look bad collectively; what I mean is that now their are LESS AA coaches than before the season started. But if you break down EACH firing, the moves all had merit.

1) Wilks. In way over his head. Anyone who watched the team regularly knew that Wilks just had to go.
2) Joseph. The Broncos discussed letting him after LAST season. They gave him one more year and weren't thrilled with the direction he took them
3) Bowles. Had four seasons to make a difference. The issue I have with Bowles is that the Jets are talent deficient and I don't think he had enough good players to win.
4) Lewis. Dude had many years to take the Bengals to the next level and failed time and time again.

If they were Caucasians, would their be any discussion? No there would not be, everyone would be discussing the new hirings. None were controversial if you look at each move from a merit perspective.

I could be wrong, but a quick review of current NFL rosters shows that women might be underrepresented as well.

Although I did once date a really hot babe whose first name was Chandler so it’s possible that this Catanzaro person could be a chick.

Bottom line is there were going to be a lot of empty seats at the stadium in 2019 if a change wasn't made. It was definitely a financial decision involving hundreds of millions of dollars and that can't be ignored
