I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, so I really shouldn't judge, but I feel like there were some great films this year, and that movie is geetting all the hype because of the "daring" nature of the film I guess...

But, I need to see it really...

Granted I havent seen two of these movies. But I highly doubt anyone puton a better acting perfromance than Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man. That would be one example for you.

Yes, you do.....the acting performances were superb - and rightfully recognized. I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman will end up winning Best Actor, but Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams performances were outstanding, as was Jake Gyllenhall's.

I'm curious as to why Jake is considered a co-star in it...is Heath really the main guy in it?

I absolutely agree. I also liked A History of Violence.

Wasn't Crash released in late 2004??

William Hurt, though only in it for a few minutes was AMAZING. I couldn't believe it was William Hurt. I don't know what kind of screen time you need for a supporting actor nomination, but damn, he was really good.

Have you seen the other performances? Any of them?

Yeah, Shane, that's a bit of a stretch...

Hoffman had a good one, although I've only seen clips.

But Phoenix...I mean, to sing like Johnny Cash, and then the performance on top of it...that was amazing.

Woops, you're right. I wonder which ones he hasn't seen...

I would assume Brokeback Mountain and Hustle and Flow.

I haven't watched Hustle and Flow (and I never will), so take this with a grain of salt. It does not appear to me to be anything near worthy of a nomination, though.

I haven't seen it either, but I haven't heard one bad thing about it, and especially about Terence Howard.

Heath had more screen time, and the story revolved almost as much around Ennis' (Heath's character) relationship with his wife and daughters as it did Heath and Jake's. Jake had some family scenes, but not nearly as much. I can see them titled as co-stars, but can also see why they would nominate Jake as supporting actor.

Same thing happened with Shawshank Redemption back in the day.
