Saw some tweets from Urban and Somers who are at the joint TN/AZ practice. Here are some of thier notes -

- Doucet, Fitz, Patrick, Roberts all sat out.

- TN QB Chris Simms said during a passing play "your two safeties are bigger than any 'backers we got."

- O-line held up agianst TN D-line in one on ones.

- Max Hall hit Stephen Williams on a long TD

- Leinart pass deflects off Jim Drey for an INT.

- Faneca looked good in pass pro.

- Will davis left practice after reaggravating right knee bruise, he'll be okay.

- Dan Williams had a sack on VY.

- Cards first team D stopped TN first team O on during 2 minute drill. Campbell causes VY incompletion on 4th down.

- "Cards offense moves ball well in 2-minute drill. Leinart looks sharp, short passes." - Somers.

- "Max Hall ran the 2-minute drill on the 2nd team offense and moved the ball." -Somers. Very interesting, DA's job might not be as safe as we thought.

All good stuff. Last little tidbit doesn't mean squat IMO. Makes for good drama to a reporter though. In one of my camp reports I stated that during 2 minute drills they went from leinart to skelton iirc working with the 2's and skipped Anderson altogether. Whiz just does that sometimes.

And Urban just corrected himself -

"FYI, DA worked some with the ones in two-minute drill, then Hall went in. Still, he was the third one in. Sorry for the confusion."

Needless to say, I still think it's a sign the Cards like what they've seen. Not saying he'll make the 53 but...

Got to watch the last hour of practice today.

Defense looked pretty good - were breaking up some pass plays. Got beat on a few as well. When Coach Whiz came over to talk to a few of us after practice, he said he heard the defense had been doin well (since he was over with the offense). I didn't watch the D for too long, since the offense was on the other end, and there were fewer fans over there.

Offense looked good as well. Leinart looked good on the short throws and ran the 2 min drill well at the end, movin the ball down the field. Of course, all but 1 or 2 of his completions were to the middle of the field. Only had 1 bad throw on that drive - a low ball that hit the dirt in front of the WR's feet. Max Hall actually looked pretty good too. Had some nice longer throws. He also looks tiny. Even though Fitz was not practicing, he was in the huddles, and just watching really closely.

Most of the Cards players went straight inside after practice, but Stephen Williams, Onera Jones, & John Skelton came out to talk to the fans at the fences. Also, Coach Whiz came and hung out with a few of us Cards fans after he did a radio interview.

I am gonna try to get a look at practice tomorrow at Vandy even though it is closed. If they are practicing on the practice fields near the rec center, I should be able to get a nice view in even if they don't let me in. Just need to find out what time practice is.

Nice to hear Matt looked good in that 2 minute drill but I hate the fact that they're still short passes. Did he throw down the field at all? I want to see some 20 yard passes a la Matt to Fitz week 1 of preseason.

IIRC, he had at least 2 passes of longer than 10 or 15 yrds - one of which was a nice sideline throw (maybe that one didn't happen during the 2 min drill - Im dont remember exactly)

Doesn't help he's gotten zero protection to make those kind of passes, but at least he got a couple in.

Couldn't make it to the practice today but it appears some good things came out of it.

I really like what I see of Hadnot. Let's get it going in Chicago and get rid of all this negativity.

I just got back from Nashville. I was on the far field, where the offense spent their day so I didn't see much of the defense aside from individual drills. Probably more than a dozen Cardinal fans over there--including Skeltons Aunt & Uncle and Onrea Jones' family.

My observations....best pass I saw all day was during one vs one Stephen Williams against TN DB, Leinart threw it perfectly and Williams caught it comfortably over his shoulder.

Max Hall is the best QB on the roster out of the pocket, he looks very comfortable on the move but not so much when he has to step in to the pocket.

During 7 on 7's Leinarts first pass was a gift INT, he followed that up with a nice pass to Dray that Dray muffed right in to a TN defender...he got an earful from a coach.

Byrd got yelled at for not finishing a play. It was the only time I noticed Byrd at all, he is a goner IMO.

Whisenhunt lit in to D. Anderson during one 7 on 7, all I caught was "God Damnit!" and then he was in his face, this was following him rifling a 7 yard pass that bounced off a shoulder pad.

Both Leinart & Hall looked good during the 2 minute drill. Stephen Williams made the catch of the day diving on the sideline.

Spach ended Hall's 2 minute drill by misjudging a ball that hit him in the hands, the ball went straight up and was intercepted.

Beanie is fired up! Everytime they broke the huddle he let out some kinda war cry. He ran hard but it's hard to judge since it wasn't full contact but he did get outside on one run and was untouched until he was 5-7 yards downfield.

I have some pictures to post too as soon as I get them on the computer.

I'll post more pictures tomorrow, unfortunately I don't have any of the 2 mniute drill since all the pro photographers were in front of me as well as the Titans defenders waiting their turn.

I also have very little of the defense since they were on the first field and I was on the far side of the third field.

Practice was over but Washington was running individual drills and getting special attention from coaches and most of the OL was running sideline to sideline including Deuce who doesn't look "fat" to me...

Just a thought about Anderson.

It was mentioned by Kerry that Wiz got on him for throwing a short (7 yd) ball with far too much mustard.

Then I hark back to the incompletion to Breaston at the back of the end zone this past Monday. It looked as though Derek tried the float the ball in there and it sailed high. (I'm thinking: "Man! If he had just jammed it in there on a rope, it's a sure 6!")

Damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Derek apparently hasn't figured out when to zing it and when to take something off his passes. Instead, he's prone either to either extreme - "always zinging it" or "always floating it."

He seems to be going through a frustrating period of adjustment that will either make him or break him. If he can finally get to the point where he knows when to zing and when to feather it, he'd be a 25 - 30% more effective QB (the deflection-picks will be fewer and so will the missed open-receivers).
