I was just looking at the stats of last nights game and it said the Cards sacked the Bolts 8 times for a loss of 41 yards! I watched the game but I don't remember 8 sacks....it's a good sign though..

The NFL.com scores page has links to all the individual stats. If you count up the sacks by defensive players, you get 8.

So that's like 13 sacks in 2 preseason games...more than half of our total for all of last year?

My guess is that five of them came against SD's second / third team offense.

That being said, even against the first team o, the pressure was good.

SD better hope that their starting tackles stay healthy, because the backups are a disaster.

On a different note, I can see why Drew Brees is Marty S kind of QB -- one quick look down the field, and throw the five yard dump off to the back. .

Living in SO Cal I actually got to see this game! The brightest aspect was that we showed consistent pressure pretty much the whole game. Eight sacks wow! Except for that one long SD drive in the 1st quarter and the TD pass in the 4th quarter our D looked really solid.

True - But a year ago, we'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 sacks against these very same guys.

It never ceases to amaze me the insipid negativity some people insist on bringing up, no matter what.

This team had 8 sacks against the Chargers, kept pressure applied fairly constantly throughout the game, has only allowed 1 TD and 1 field goal in the first 2 games.
They aren't playing their "first" team against "inferior" players or just backups.
They are running in their own subs just as much or more than the other team.

Yet, sure enough, some people still find something to ****** about, and rag on them for.

Amazing, simply amazing.

Tango, DAMN, how can you wear blinders constantly, man?

IF, and only IF the Cardinals play a flawless game (which I haven't seen in quite some time), THEN there will be nothing to worry about.

Our starting O-line was manhandled by their starting D-line. FACT. Their starting O-line did very well against our starting D-line (which will now be without KVB). FACT. Our special teams were abysmal. HUGE FACT.

We did show that we have excellent depth. This pleases me greatly.

This is the preseason. W-L doesn't matter one bit. It's HOW YOU PLAY that matters. We didn't suck, but we didn't play lights-out either. WILL YOU ADMIT WE NEED SOME WORK!?!?!?!?!?

In other words, will you stop the incessant positivism and look at things realistically? We need to improve or we're in trouble.

Hey Stout, the conversation seemed to be mostly centered around the pass rush. In the past that has been THE big complaint about this team. Thats all my comments were really in reference to.
They are getting after people, putting consistant pressure on the QB. . . something we haven't seen in a whille.

Holy crap, lighten up a little bit.

Where did I say this team was perfect, and didn't need improving.
I just get tired of the same ol' same ol' negativity, usually from the same ol' same ol' people who'd probably bitch if they were hung with a new rope. And please don't insult my, or other people's intelligence with an attempt to rationalize negativiity.

These first 2 games our starting offensive team has hardly played at all, Emmitt and Shipp have played very, very little, Big hasn't played, they've been looking at a lot of the "bubble" players so far, and compared to past years, this team does indeed look on the rise.

I am a little concerned about special teams coverage, at the moment, but let's see what happens in the next 2 weeks.
Again, this is experimentation time, checking out bodies,
and I like what I see shaping up overall depth-wise, It's beginning to look like this may be a good second half team once the regular season gets rolling.
Cry me your sob story if and when the Cards start losing big time...until then....
"I don't see you, so don't pretend to be there!!"

You wanna go cry or slobber in your beer, then be my guest...have at it.
I refuse to be drawn into the negative rut some of you all seem to wallow in so much.

I forgot, Tango...you're the one that steadfastly REFUSED to admit there was anything negative about this team when we ended last year 1-9. My bad. You must be satisfied with that and happy with the effort.

I'm not bitching about the team. I, and others, are voicing legitimate concerns over some areas of difficulty on a young team during the preseason. I hear a lot of worries and not a lot of 'waaaaaah' crying.

Of course, you never could just allow people to discuss possible concerns about this team. You just want everyone to be happy. Go sing with Bobby McFarin (spelling?).

If you look back, I'm not being that negative. We've won-I'm thrilled with that, even though it is preseason. Our defense seems to be vastly improved. Our QBs aren't chucking it into double-coverage. I'm happy about this. Even with the KVB injury, I think we'll win more games than last year. I'm just a tad optimistic about this season.

However, there is no denying that we aren't lighting it up out there thus far. There were undeniable problems during the San Diego game. Did you bother to answer those? Do you bother to worry about them? No, because it would mess with your Weltenschaung (world view). In other words, it woul mean everything isn't peaches and cream.

But that's just you. I should have realized that and ignored your backhanded sarcasm at everyone trying to post and have a good time.

It seemed like most of the sacks came against the statue, er 3rd string QB the Bolts had in there. Can't remember his name (began with a B?), but hope he got his degree in something useful.

The way I see it is the biggest area of concern takin from Charger game is special team play. They just were not special. Chargers started on the 30-40 yard line after every kick off, with 1 exception.

Our punt returners backed off and left us with bad field position all night. Give the punter for SD his due he was GREAT. WE need to go over coverage. We need to evaluate schemes. We need to look at all players on special teams to see why it looked easy. Many times it was the last 1 or 2 guys that made tackles. If it wasn';t for a penalty the Chargers would have scored earlyb with a return. This truly was one of the worst efforts I've seen from our Crads in this area. Let me also say that Hank Kulleman(Spelling), was our special team coach a few years ago and that team was also pathetic in this regard.

Burford, and he was bad. It seemed like the Cards were getting some conistent pressure on Flutie. Pace was abusing the reserve LT on SD, but I was more impressed when he shed that same blocker and made a play against the run. There seems to be a popular comparison between Pace and Simeon Rice, but I don't think I've ever seen Simeon make a play against the run like Pace did. They both wear/wore the same # as rookies, though. Guess that explains some of it.

I like the pressure we put on the 2nd and 3rd teamers, and I think Pace and King will be able to give us some pressure on the 1st teamers in the next few weeks.

I agree, though, that special teams really did scare me, as did tackling (or lack thereof).

But it seemed like every Charger punt landed on the 7 yard line and took a perfect bounce. You have to back off and not return those kind of punts.
