Well, much as I liked Hurt Locker a lot, I was surprised it beat Avatar.

Sandra Bullock over that level of competition? I don't think so.

The German dude for supporting actor in Inglorious Basterds, on the other hand, was absolutely dead on.

Sandra Bullock stuns me, too. That movie was even more so a made-for-TV movie than Invictus, and it wasn't like Bullock was trying something completely out of character.

I thought Hellen Mirren was the obvious choice there, but I think British actors get downgraded because we begin with high expectations of their work.

Now if Hellen Mirren had played Leign Anne Tuohy and pulled it off, that would be a very different story.

Nothing all that surprising. To me, the most surprising loss was The White Ribbon not winning Best Foreign Language Film.

But Jeff Bridges, Christophe Walz and Mo'Nique were exactly as expected. (Sandra Bullock to a lesser extent as well) I was pretty certain that Avatar and Hurt Locker were going to split the director/picture awards, so I was a little surprised Hurt Locker won both.

Still too long and with only a few funny bits, hard to believe after all these years they can't figure out how to shorten it--that leads to Tom Hanks making a quick appearance and the Best Picture award being treated like an afterthought. After all that buildup too...

Sandra Bullock was going to win. I wasn't as sure as a lot of other people were, but I'm not surprised. I was crossing my fingers that the girl from Precious would win, but oh well.

I am very surprised they did not mention Farrah Fawcett when they showed those who passed away during the past year.

Probably because she was a TV star...not known for Movie acting. Only thing I can think of. Michael Jackson was included because he was in The Wiz; otherwise, I think they leave him out, too.

NO Bea Arthur, either. Yes, another TV star, but both had film roles

Off the top of my head, Fawcett was in Saturn 3, Extremeties and The Apostle. It's not like she was never in a feature film. At one time she was as big a Hollywood star as there was. She definitely should have been included.

Even Roger Ebert tweeted about it:

"No Farrah in the memorial. They have a whole lot of 'splaining to do."

I thought the whole show was alright. I still stand by my thought that NPH should have been the host (at least we got a little bit at the beginning of the show). Martin and Baldwin seemed a little nervous or just plain akward up there. Oh well, it's not my decision.

My Sandra Bullock hate comes from the fact that I hate Sandra Bullock. She's one of the few actors who I will rule out a movie over them being in. Hugh Grant is another.

As for her role, Erin Brockovich 2.0 doesn't equate to best actress to me. Been there, done that, screwed up the first time.

All five movies that were up for best documentary looked really good. Has anyone seen "the Cove"?

Is that movie worth watching? What about, "Food Inc"?

yeah, that was without a doubt the strangest moment of the night... well, maybe the 2nd strangest next to Grimace running up on stage and winning the award for Most Obnoxious Moment of the night.

and, good god, could it be more transparent sometimes what is going to win something? Shocker that the industry's biggest feminist Babs is there to announce Best Director for... whoa, no way... the first Female Best Director? Or when Coppola, Spielberg and Lucas were ALL on stage a couple years ago to announce Best Picture for... no way... Martin Scorcese's first ever Best pIcture win (for a movie that so didn't deserve it... but another matter for another day).

I think A Single Man should have had more recognition. It was truly a great movie. And one I would see again. Cannot say the same for Avatar. Not at all.

Agreed on all accounts. I will say that I did enjoy the way they introduced/set-up Best Actor and Actress nominations... nice job there.

x2. Blind Side was one of the best films I have ever seen and a well-deserved Oscar win. That movie was all her.

DVD comes out Mar 23 and it is definitely on my shopping list.

I was REALLY glad Avatar didn't win. Cameron spent 10 years on the effects and 10 minutes on the script, and it showed.

Personally, I thought District 9 was the best movie I saw this year. Either that or Up.

Biggest upset to me was Foreign Language category. I thought The Prophet was going to win.

Yes I have. If you're an animal lover, be prepared to be pretty upset. It's sickening what happened to those dolphins in the cove. I got sick to my stomach after they showed the hidden video footage.

Food Inc is a must see. Everyone I've spoken to about this film has at least considered making a change regarding their meat purchases. It's a start anyway. The way these companies run these farms is sickening.

I thought Pirate Radio was good too, but no one else did. :) I need to see District 9.

If you've ever played Halo, you've seen the last 50 minutes of District 9.
