THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
Pearl Harbor, Titanic, etc all have had movies done about these tragic events and I know the attacks on the US on 9/11 will have a movie made about them but when would it be ok to make this movie?? It is still a very sensative issue right now so I dont think Hollywood would make it anytime soon or would they?

I think maybe at or around the ten year anniversary. It will probably be a bit less sensitive and painful of an issue by then, and that would be a good way (if done properly) to honor all those that lost their lives that day.

They could make it tomorrow just as long as there is no Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer association. Those guys over dramatize historical events, IMO

Also, they need to be very careful on casting. You wouldn't want to see an anti-American like Alec Baldwin have a role

Wouldn't he be perfect then to play one of the terrorists?

I had thought about that soon after it happened. With all these disaster movies out there (most based on fake situations) the real ones seem to get more audiences. I just hope if they do it soon, they can give some money to families or something, and that it's not 70% love story like Pearl Harbor. (GAG). It should really remind of of the unity we had after the event. This country could use some of that.

Every part of a 9/11 movie would have potential to offend someone though. How do you portray the terrorists? Would that ignite some more hate towards people who look arab? Or even terrorists themselves?

There's no doubt some of the things that happened on 9/11 were violent. How much do you show? What about the families who's loved ones died jumping out of the building, or burning alive?

Just some questions that might come up when/if it is made. I think it will be and it will be a controversial film no matter what, but somehow, i think many will be compelled to see it.

Besides the documentary, with actual footage, that aired shortly after 9/11, there have been many tv shows/movies that dealt with it from an aftermath point of view (fire station that lost someone, relatives of those lost, etc)

Here's a movie that will deal with it: 102 Minutes

Stone, Cage to Team Up on Film About 9/11
Sat Jul 9, 2005

Nearly four years after the collapse of the World Trade Center, Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone will direct a film based on the story of two police officers who were trapped in the rubble on Sept. 11, 2001.

Nicolas Cage, who won a best-actor Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas," will star as Port Authority police Sgt. John McLoughlin. McLoughlin and fellow officer William J. Jimeno became trapped during rescue efforts after the collapse of the twin towers.

Paramount Pictures said the movie is expected to be released next year.

"It's a work of collective passion, a serious meditation on what happened and carries within a compassion that heals," Stone said in a statement Friday. "It's an exploration of heroism in our country — but it's international at the same time in its humanity."

Paramount said the film also will focus on the officers' rescuers and their families. McLoughlin and Jimeno are said to be the last two men rescued.

"I feel someone had to tell the story of the people who were in the Trade Center before and after it collapsed," McLoughlin said in a statement. "It needs to be told how this horrific tragedy brought Americans and the world together to help those in need."

While the star power of Stone and Cage will likely make the movie the most high profile film to tackle 9/11, it's not the first. Many independent films have turned their lens to downtown New York, and in the 2002 film "The Guys," Anthony LaPaglia played a fire captain who lost eight men in the towers' collapse.

9/11 Projects at Paramount & Columbia
Source: Variety
July 8, 2005

Paramount Pictures will finance and distribute an untitled feature about the rescue of two Port Authority police officers from the rubble of the World Trade Center, says Variety. Oliver Stone will direct the film and Nicolas Cage will star.

Andrea Berloff, who recently signed to write Paramount's remake of Don't Look Now, has written the script. The Stone project is on a fast track with pre-production already started in New York.

Paramount isn't the only studio now moving briskly to tell the 9/11 story, adds the trade.

After optioning the Jim Dwyer-Kevin Flynn book "102 Minutes" in February, Columbia Pictures has already received a first script draft by Billy Ray, writer and director of Shattered Glass.

The project addresses the rescue attempts that took place between the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. and the collapse of the first tower at 10:28 a.m.

The Stone-directed project will focus on a much smaller story from the fateful day. Cage will portray one of the two Port Authority police officers, Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin, who were among the many rescuers who risked their lives by rushing into the smoking buildings; the duo were among the very few who survived the fall of the towers, thanks to the frantic rescue efforts of other rescuers who pulled them from the rubble before their oxygen ran out.
