Said we got Haren and a prospect for 7 prospects that didn't include Bonafacio (which makes sense since we traded Callaspo).

The only names I could hear were Carlos Gonzalez, Brett Anderson, Chris Carter, and Dana Eveland. I heard the announcer say that Scherzer AND Bonafacio were not part of the deal.

Not sure if it's true but I had to post it. We need Haren, come on JB!!!!

So, I don't know enough about all the names we gave up: was this a good trade for the Dbacks? A steal? Even-steven?

When you trade stars for prospects its always wait and see.

I think, from what I saw in the last two fall leagues, that assuming Haren is decent, we did real good. Reeeeal good.

OMG Yes! Finally. We didn't give up Bonifacio or Scherzer! So, now we have a very sexy rotation.

1.Brandon Webb
2.Dan Haren(OMG YES!)
3.Randy Johnson(healthy)
4.Doug Davis
5.Owings

We got Connor Robertson also.

I am loving this deal. It defintely hurts to lose that many prospects, but when you get a player of Haren's ability (and age to top it off), it makes us a better team right now. And with all of out young starters already, this duo of Webb/Haren will be able to carry this team in ANY playoff matchup. If RJ can stay healthy or at least pitch in the playoffs, this team could be scary the next couple years.

I wouldn't count on RJ for jack but Webb, Haron, Davis and Owings are a solid 1-4. Maybe someone will emerge as a serviceable #5. If the Dbacks get anything out of RJ it will be gravy.

I have a herniated disk in my back. It doesn't ever heal even with surgery you're never right again. RJ has TWO of them.

Yeah. That signing was kind of stupid. Randy had a few solid outings last year, but yeah, I doubt we get a full season from him. We'll be lucky to get anything.

Anyways, I'd imagine we have Gonzalez as our number 5 if Johnson isn't healthy.

Okay. I don't know enough about any of these guys to know for sure if we've improved. At least we are making a serious effort at improving our starting pitching.

Question: With Valverde gone, who closes?

Yeah, but the D-Backs aren't sure what they want him to do. And plus, the D-Backs couldn't have traded Scherzer even if they wanted to because a player, once he signs, has to play 12 months of pro ball before he can be traded. Thank you MLB for that rule.

This is an awesome, AWESOME deal for the D-Backs. Think of it this way, we just replaced a so-so Livan Hernandez with a younger, more cap-friendly, and much better pitcher. And we gave up next to nothing as far as players we had room for on the team. Carlos was never going to see playing time anyway, so he was trade bait the moment Young took off.

The D-Backs just made a GREAT move.

Fantastic move! Haren is a stud, paired with Webb, Arizona has IMO the best starting 2 in the NL.

Webb/Haren > Peavy/Young

I am not counting on Unit anymore, at this point he is a major "if" best case. I don't think AZ needs him.

Big  on getting Haren without giving up any of the young guys on the big club.

Surprised we traded Valverde but I guess we just go find the next one. I just feel bad for Gracie since he had some much affection for Papa'. :D

I don't agree, but they aren't far off and our hitting is better. Dodgers and Rockies are our biggest competition anyway imo so it doesn't matter.

Man, this trade got me calling abomb and talking about baseball in December. I don't think that has EVER happened before.

This is a great trade...the weakness of the dbacks has just been shored up. This is one hell of a 1-2 punch. Losing Valverde is kind of bad, but getting someone to close is waaaaay easier than getting a solid near-ace level second pitcher.

Amen, brother. I'm a new convert to baseball (last few years) and talking baseball while the Cardinals are still alive for a playoff spot in week 15, is a new experience.

Good call. The Cards are still fighting, the Coyotes are showing some promise, ASU is off to a pretty good bowl, the Suns are looking fine so far, yet all I can think about is seeing the Diamondbacks this spring.

Yeah. I'm a humongo Suns and D-Backs fan. I couldn't wait for the Suns, and now, I can't wait for the D-Backs season also. Our pitching staff is looking very good. But, we can't count on Johnson. I know in an earlier post, I said Johnson would be there if he were healthy, but I doubt we get a full season out of him. But, I love our 1-4 guys.

I'm a straight guy, but have rooted for the Mercury since their inception.

Y'know, you left the second Arizona team to win a professional sports championship off your list.

And the Rattlers have a new coach.

They're the most successful sports team in Arizona sports history. :p Semi-Pro, but still...I love 'em.

I also left out the Arizona Rattlers, Phoenix Roadrunners, and Arizona Sundogs, as well as a couple of other really obscure teams in the state either currently playing or beginning play before the Diamondbacks take the field again. It wasn't supposed to be a complete list. ;)
