Once again the Cardinals pull out a late score to tie------almost. It was kind of fitting that the wide open receiver was Early Doucet, the guy who in his first few years was almost healthy enough to be the guy they looked for to replace Anquan Boldin. With just over a minute left in regulation, John Skelton found Doucet open on his way to the end zone, completely uncovered. Doucet, however, got turned around and lost his footing and came crashing to the turf untouched, while the ball sailed harmlessly over his prone body. He was almost in position to make the play.
For years now, the Cardinals have strung along with Doucet, the guy who almost displayed the skills to become our #2 wide receiver, the guy who almost was healthy enough to play year after year, taking the load off Larry Fitzgerald. Once again, this time with the game on the line, Doucet almost came through for them.
Of course, this (catch that almost occurred), was not the reason the Cardinals failed to win the game. That happened with the almost total ineptitude of the entire offense throughout almost the entire first three quarters of play. There was little to cheer about with three picks thrown by the Skeletor today, and a very feeble effort on the part of the offensive line to block for Beanie Wells, or to pass protect for Skeleton.
Strangely, there was virtually no life in the offense at all, until Whiz finally relented and let his best offensive lineman off the bench and into the game in the fourth quarter. Deuce Lutui finally got out of the coach's dog house and replaced Rex Hadnot, (who could not either pass protect, or run block), all day. Suddenly, the offense came to life, as Beanie had successive carries foe over 7 yards each, through holes opened by the Deuce himself. I realize that Lutui came into camp overweight again. He had been relegated to the bench early last year, (the lost year). It mattered not to Whiz that he was the best lineman on the roster, he had to serve his punishment on the pine. This year, the Cardinals did not pick up his contract, opting to let him go in free agency. He was selected by the Bungles, who promptly failed him medically for being overweight. The Cards then picked up his contract for the minimum, and punished him all year for being overweight. So goes the game. So goes the season. He is still our best O-Lineman
