I imagine most of you have already looked this up, but Stoudemire averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds in 26 games after the All-Star break. The Suns were 11-16.

Uh, apparently this means that Stoudemire sat out one game after the break, but I don't feel like looking up which one. Either that or ESPN's stats haven't updated after last night yet.

Not to dwell on the negative, but how many turnovers per game did he average after the All-Star break?

3.7 per game, up about one per game from the first half of the season. That would put him solidly among the league's top five.

I don't like the turnovers, but they don't bother me that much. I think by next season he will have him back down to a reasonable amount. The thing I keep forgetting about Amare Stoudemire is that he missed the entire off-season then missed a good portion of the regular season because of his ankle. I can only imagine how well he would be playing right now if he had not missed that time.

I do expect Amare Stoudemire to be a top 10 basketball player by next season. It really wouldn't surprise me if he was on the fringe of superstardom.

He should be a top-ten fantasy pick, at least...

Depends on the scoring system. In slin's second hoops.ws I'm not sure I would take him in the top 10.

On another board there was a debate over when Amare would be on the All Star team. His problem is that at PF he is competing with Duncan, KG, and Dirk - not to mention Brand. A guy could be in the top 15 players in the NBA and still not make the Western Conference All Star team.

I would think the points off his turnovers would be a much more telling statistic, if it's even kept.

Beyond Amare, but maybe because of him, the Suns began to develop an identity toward the end of the season. And that's something they've sorely lacked.

I'm very encouraged by the uptick in play and thrilled at the news that the Colangelos are getting their tired asses out of bball.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Colangelos will be with the Suns for at least 5 more years, sale or no sale.

Both Amare and JJ have a lot of work to do to get the turnovers down. The Suns have enough trouble on defense to let people get easy baskets.

The key is to learn how to keep the ball when fouls are not being called.

That and he's only what, 19?

How long were Kobe, T-Mac and Garnett in the league before they made an impact?

There is a simple solution to this. Call Lampe a PF, call Zarko a PF, call Dice a PF, if we draft Okafor, call him a pf too.

We ought to list Amare as a center, he doesn't have to play differently at all.
If he's listed as a center, he'll be a perennial all-star.

It may happen that way. Brad Miller made the All Star team this year. Brad or Amare - who would you least want to face?

Garnett made an impact right away but Kobe and McGrady were 2 or 3 years in when they figured out how to play. I think Kobe was younger than Amare when he came in to the league.

Amare is a great young player but only his drive and determination can make him great like the players mentioned above. The final piece is to be a defensive player as well.

I noticed he was going left against Ostertag. He wasnt making as many but he was still going to the line. Now if he can work on finishing left....wow.

Also, it would be great if he could learn how to score with the left hand - it would incredible.

There's little doubt Amare Stoudemire is going to be one of the premier offensive weapons in the NBA. As has been mentioned a million times before his challenge will be on the defensive end of the floor. He needs to get much, much better. A good part of the time he was the worst defender on the floor for the Phoenix Suns.

Amare Stoudemire made it exciting to watch this team even when they were not winning games. Every time he sinks the 15 foot shot with some consistency you say to yourself that this guy is going to be unstoppable. A couple times this season (once against Utah or the Clippers the other night) he hit a 10-15 foot Tim Duncan Bank shot like it was nothing. I would also like to see him continue to develop a little hook shot in the middle.
