It’s all quite bleak for Pollock and the Diamondbacks, who have now lost six in a row. Depending on its severity, a sprained thumb can typically sideline a player anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Pollock’s been thrilling when he’s healthy but has only managed to string together one season with at least 150 games played out of his seven-year career. He’s set to visit a hand specialist on Tuesday, at which point the team should have more clarity on if he’ll need to miss extended time.

Reason #1 why it would be insane to offer AJ a big contract - he can't stay healthy, mainly because of plays like that where he had no chance to get the ball, in a game that was out of reach already

Sad, but true.

He didn't think the game was out of reach...especially if he makes that catch, big play momentum and all. Having said that, he needs to pull up there and field the ball and get the next hitter.

I suspect the Dbacks will in fact give him a big contact. He is popular among casual fans and for an organization that needs to battle to get people in the seats...

He's a rare 5 tool player. He is getting older though, hopefully he realises he's not helping the club if he can't stay on the field for 150+ a year. Yes he can make better decisions out there. Hustle within reason and context.

Pollock's X-rays as expected
The X-rays of the avulsion fracture in A.J. Pollock's left thumb that were taken on Tuesday looked as expected. The club will continue playing the waiting game.

"It's still not totally healed, but it's exactly where we thought it would be," Lovullo said. "We're going to continue to do the therapy and try to get him back on his feet as soon as possible."

Pollock suffered the injury in a loss to the Brewers two weeks ago. The initial thought was he'd miss 4-8 weeks. Pollock remains in his soft cast.

There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

"Obviously, the type of healing that we saw, he can't pick up a bat or do any type of baseball activity," Lovullo said. "We'll need to wait another week until we reassess what's going on with another picture."

#DBacks outfielder A.J. Pollock on injury: “If I had a time machine, I wouldn’t have dove for that if I knew I was going to break my thumb.”

It doesn't take a time machine, A.J. ... or Souza ... or Lamb. Decide in advance if the game is worth going on the DL for a catch or a slide.

4-8 weeks

I hate these estimates. When was the last time any local team had a significant injury to a star and the player came back on the sooner side of the estimated timeframe?

I'm guessing we see AJ again after the all star break at the earliest.

Pollock (thumb) didn't receive clearance to resume baseball activities after undergoing a CT scan Monday, Justin Toscano of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Pollock's scan revealed that his fractured left thumb is healing, but not to the point where he's able to comfortably bat and play the outfield. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Pollock may be able to begin range-of-motion exercises this week, but the 30-year-old's lack of on-field activity since suffering the injury May 14 suggests he likely won't be activated from the 10-day disabled list until late June at the earliest.

Doubt we see him in July.
