Fans of Christopher Guest's mockumentaries (This is Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show) will love this latest installment. I laughed nonstop through the whole movie. It's an excellent satire of the folk music scene of the 60's. Great performances all around, with Eugene Levy and Fred Willard stealing their scenes yet again.

This just came out on DVD - saw it for the first time last night. Great flick.

I can do without Fred Willard (his routine gets a little old after awhile), but Catherine O'hara/Eugene Levy make a great screen couple. It was entertaining to see the Spinal Tap reunion (Guest, McLean and Harry Shearer) - but this time playing folk music.

fred willard was hilarious in that movie, he was so off the wall. eugene levy's character was far too weird in this movie. i thought his performance was the worst part of the whole movie. that was just my opinion.

Funny, but I thought it was the weakest of the mockumentaries.

It was pretty genuine to the music, which I thought was the best selling point. Parodies are best when you stay as close to the true nature of the subject.

Guest says he hates to the "mockumentary" term because he says he isn't really mocking anyone. Guest is also a bluegrass musician in real life, so I don't think this movie was meant to be a "look at the wierdos" thing. He merely cast a light on something of which he has intimate knowledge, and I suspect he steered the actors to maintain an innocence so the film wouldn't betray any 'wink wink' perception and break down the fourth wall.

PROBABLY his second best film after Best of Show, which was so earnestly put together with such strong characters, it's one of my top 20 films of all time.

Best in Show definitely makes the tail end of my top 10 comedies list. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.
