Twice we see a 3rd and 1 and see them stack the box, and our playcall is to just run it right up into the teeth of the D. I concede doing this once, but twice? Unless you are doing some Princess Bride routine that ends with you drinking iocane powder by trying to outthink the right move for the opponent, take what they are giving you. The edge was open on both of those tries, and Beanie is very good at getting to the edge.

At least later, in the same situation, they ran that nice little out pass to Tim who got the first and more, but hell, I'd even had been happy with the dangerous pitch out play to Beanie that he almost fumbles than running it right at 9 guys.

I will add this here and not start a new thread. Did everyone see the end of the GB and Pitt game? GB used a three man rush duriing the last drive by Pitt during the entire drive. I absolutely hate the three man rush it is nothing but game loser.

It has worked pretty effectively by SF against Cards :(

we suck at 3rd&1
when we had the second one and I saw the formation I went bonkers...I knew what was about to happen.

What you really need to ask is why there was only single coverage when you have 8 guys back and only 3 rushing.

If we're going to be stubborn about running it up the gut, I'd like to see them set something else up with it in the eventuality (ha!) that it's not going to work.

For example, on 3rd and 1's early in the game let's give it to Krieder a couple of times. Then later in the game in the same situation from the same formation, let's fake it to Krieder and pitch it outside to Wells.

Let's not forget that GB stopped Pittsburgh at least twice on that last drive, but the zebras had a different agenda. I've been watching the NFL since the early 60's & I still can't remember the Steelers having a call go against them in a meaningful game.

Your point is valid, but Green Bay is a penalty machine. You could call pass interference, illegal contact, or holding on them on almost every pass play. Michael Lombardi on NFL Network made a very good point. Green Bay's performance on any given Sunday is going to depend on how much the officiating lets their DB's get away with illegal contact.

3rd and 1

it was a problem against SF, and a problem yesterday

it seemed all game long they went with the two TE, one FB, one WR formation.

Lions mimicked the 49ers by playing 9 guys within three yards of the LOS, all between the tackles. At the snap -- all hit gaps on their way to the QB.

When you need to pick up a yard or two, there's something counter-intuitive about running directly at Grady Jackson.

Hehe My father's a die-hard Steelers fan, and he has a far different view. In his world the refs always, always hate the Steelers. I can't blame him much, because they used to get royally screwed on calls when I was growing up. One year I think they received 3 official apology letters from the league for snafus that cost them games.

Nowadays, they don't get screwed at all, I quite agree.
