What was the first sequal ever, when you think about it there were really not any for a while, unless you count things like the Chaplin movies, but would those really be sequals. Just a dumb queston I guess, but still wondering.

That's a good question, but probably very difficult to answer. Serials obviously were all sequels, but exempting those, you'd have to go to the Thin Man series, or Charlie Chan, or Pink Panther, but those are more like multiple movies with the same characters, rather than a sequel where the story continues--you might have to go as recent as Godfather Part II for a story sequel.
