Very close but not quite. The Coryell years are when i became a fan of football and the Cardinals as well, even as a kid living in Eagles country and in an era when everyone i knew were Cowboys, Vikings, Rams, Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, or Broncos fans. (Strangely, I didn't know a lot of Eagles or Colts fans, which were the two closest teams.)

I remember that Monday night game too - so exciting! MNF was such a big deal back then... hearing that music starting to crescendo gave me goosebumps, and watching with my dad was one of my favorite memories. So i looked it up (gotta love Pro Football Reference!) and it turns out that the win over the Cowboys on MNF took the Cardinals to 6-3 after a 1-3 start. One more win the following week over the Eagles made it 7-3, and THEN the bottom dropped out... for the next 20 years!

It started with another game i vividly remember watching - the Cardinals getting HAMMERED on Thanksgiving day by the Dolphins, 55-14. And that season ended with a loss to the Buccaneers, who thankfully had won their first game ever as a franchise the previous week, after starting 0-26.

Living through the intervening years makes those of us who became Cards fans during the Coryell era appreciate what we're experiencing right now more than fans of most teams can even imagine! Great memories indeed.

 Thanks Mitch! It's awesome to be able to share this experience with so many other Cardinals fans, old and new. I've never lived in Arizona or St. Louis so until i found ASFN i was going through this "Cardinals experience" alone!

Great stuff guys. Like dave, I have never lived in STL or AZ, so before the internet being a Cardinals fan in NJ was an exercise in solitude. This is a great thread. As evidenced by my avatar, boy did I ever love Neil Lomax. First jersey I ever owned. That '88 team would have gone places if Neil never got hurt. I was at in game in Philly for Game 13 (Cards should have won, but Earl Ferrell fumbled on the 1 going in, and we had 2 TDs called back iirc).

I was born in 71, so by the time I started following football I had missed the golden Coryell era. After decades of mostly misery, this time with BA has been such a blessing. Go Cards, and Happy New Year y'all!

Jet, thank you for posting the video of that win over the 9ers. I have a personal note about the game that was pivotal in my life. I was as drunk and stoned as a person could be at that game... Throwing up in the stands on some poor lady, got ****** slapped, got thrown out of my hotel...etc.

Had a little hair of the dog the next morning but have not had a drink since. November 9, 1988. Clean and sober 27 years. Lomax forever changed my life...:koolaid:

I remember that Eagle game, too. The Eagles were just turning the corner, but I didn't realize that and thought Cliff Stout would be more than capable.
