Lomax to Green 84
Hall of Famer
Draft Suggs with the 6th pick, and then trade the rest of your draft rounds 2-7 to the Vikings if Leftwich is still available. This sounds stupid, right? I thought so too when I first concocted this idea, but I did some research on the Cardinals and their draft history and found some disturbing statistics:
1. Since 1998, the Cardinals have more drafted players out of the league altogether then any team in the NFL (17 drafted players since 1998 are out of the league altogether!)
2. Of the current Cardinal roster, only 17 (or approx. 33 %) of the current roster is made up of players drafted by the Cardinals in rounds 2-7.
3. There are 34 current Cardinal players (or approx 67%) of the current roster aquired via free agency, being drafted in the first round, or acquired as an undrafted free agent.
4. Only 8 Cardinals of the 17 still ont he roster drafted from rounds 2-7 are solid contributors to the club as starters-Dishman, Clement, McAddley, KVB, Thompson, Bell, Barrett, Wilson.
This sounds absurd, but look at it this way. The Cards are notorious for signing players from the bottom up, using up the available rookie pool and then lowballing the #1 choice because the available cap space is used up. Having only 2 draft choices kind of forces the management to deal with them first.
