"Never give up." -Jim Valvano

The Diamondbacks are very much still in the hunt for a playoff berth. The team needs the fans support more than ever and I hope if you guys have the chance to go to a game this weekend.

Question.

At what point does a first round exit...possibly by sweep...mean anything for the future?

I am not saying they should throw in the towel, but all the hype of when our vets return is turning out to be disastrous. Maybe the Dbacks should start planning for the future now when they have the chips to trade.

Jesus guys, relax - we had one of the hottest wins streaks of the season and now we have crashed back down to earth. Give the year time - these chips we have aren;t gonna go by the wayside if we play out the season - this team has battled back before and can battle back again this weekend by beating up on the hapless Dodgers - have faith - if you want to jump off the bandwagon, go ahead, but I'm still having faith in this team - in fact - I actually knew that this whole period of adjustment thing was gonn happen, I just didn't think it would be this severe. Focus on the WC and don't lose faith. It's still a long second half to go.

I'll take my chances once the playoffs begin. With Curt, Randy, Batista and Webb in the rotation, this team will be in every game. I just hope the Diamondbacks go out and get a right fielder.

Mind you I think you always strive for the playoffs. My question was actually one that was asked on the radio yesterday and the caller said if the Dbacks were out of the division lead by 10 games or more they should trade Schilling (may have been Charlie from Tonopah for the PHX listeners...or was it post game Dbacks show last night). I asked it without the benefit of a disclaimer to see what true reactions would be to it.

I just find it ironic that now the vets are all coming back, they aren't playing much better than before they all started getting hurt.

You gotta give up something for that right fielder and Myers isn't going to cut it.

Maybe we should relax and take a couple of breaths.

If each team in baseball this side of Yankee Stadium only has a finite amount of dollars, it can try various strategies (pitching, hitting, youth, experience, etc.) The D'backs IMO stumbled onto the formula that frontline pitching gets magnified because of the playoff travel days: get the aces.

IF YOU MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

Despite the "this time it counts" hype, baseball home-field advantage is overrated. The key is making the playoffs. Among the 4 steps of make the playoffs, NLDS, NLCS, WS--making the playoff should be the hardest part.

Last year the club was missing it's best slugger (Gonzo), it's best utility infielder (CC) & unilaterally disarmed it's best 1B in a snit--by the club.
